DRAGON WINGS:55321
SAS MD-82 Twin Pack
Kettil/Fenge Viking
This is the 4th Review and the 1st done by request. I have tried to find information on why SAS painted these aircraft in this special livery. But have found very few facts. I almost did not do this review. Because the only research I was able to do was all done with photos.
In the end I just had to do a Review of the MD-80 done by Dragon Wings.
Requested by MadDog-88
THE GOOD: These aircraft have detail on top of detail.    The nose of the aircraft is done very well. The nose "strakes" are real and not just painted on. The nose gear is low to the ground giving it the nose down look that the MD-80 has on the ground.
The wings are a dream come true, including all the details that should be there like: Slats, Flaps, Wing fairings, Spoilers, Aileron trim tabs, even the wing tip fuel dump tubes.

The fuselage is highly detailed also. The "seam" between the cabin and the cargo hold can be seen. All the static air intakes are present. (usually only found on 1:200 and larger A/C) The proper tail cone is included. Ending in a wedge and not a Cone like on older MD-80s.

The Tail is as good as the wings and the body. The APU inlet is present, to scale and is not just painted on. All the push and trim tabs can be seen and the painting is top notch.
THE BAD: There is not much, but I did find a few things.  Some of the "airplanes" are misplaced. The blue paint on Fenge Viking is a little to light. It should be a little darker.  The cockpit windows on "my" Kettil Viking are on crooked.  The R1 cargo door is a little to far back.
THE UGLY: Only one thing here.  The post hole on these aircraft are very very tight. So tight that I will not remove the stands. I had this problem with DW's 727 and in the process of removing the stand I destroyed the models wingbox. Only a lot of time and a little glue saved it.  USE CAUTION WHEN DISPLAING
FINAL: This is a great box set. The great thing about is. It's accurate, It's detailed, and It's fun!  Dragon Wings MD-80 is what all new models should be judged by. The only thing in The Fleet that is more detailed might be OV-102 Space Shuttle Columbia. I bought this set because of the detail, and in reviewing it I found even more detail that I did not notice the first time.

LITTLE FACTS: The MD-80 is actually the name of the series of aircraft that include the MD-81, MD-82, MD-83, MD-87, MD-88, and V2500 powered MD-90.

About 35 "Trunkliner" MD-82's and MD-83's were built in China under license from McDonnell Douglas.

The aircraft that was born with the name MD-87-105 was later changed to the MD-95, in 1997 it once more had it's name changed. That aircraft is now called the Boeing 717-200
