Here's the skinny on the contest. It will officially open December 20th, 2001 and close on midnight, July 31st 2002, giving you all well over seven months to write and hone your pieces. You can enter them in the following categories:
1) Best Hanagata Fan Fiction: Hey, what kind of Hanagata shrine would we be if we didn't include this category? Basically this is just what it sounds like; any fan fiction which centers upon Hanagata Mitsurugi, be it drama, romance, lemon, yaoi or AU.
2) Best Romance: Whether it's Faust and Tiger, Koyuki and Soemon or, yes, even Hanagata and Otaru, Saber Marionette J is all about love, romance and desire. Fics in this category can be any pairing (het, yaoi or yuri) and should be rated from G to R. And don't feel like you need to just write about cannonical pairings either. No fic will be turned away due to whether or not it's pairing is "canon".
3) Best AU/Crossover: Alternate Universe (AU) fan fiction uses characters from a series and puts them in new locations and situations while Crossover fiction incorporates settings, characters and themes from other series. If you've written a fic where Otaru and Hanagata are college students, or one in which the marionettes duel for the Rose Bride with the cast of Utena, this is the category for you.
5) Best Series/Epic: For those of you who have written a fan fiction with multiple (more than three) parts, or a new Saber Marionette Series.
6) Best yaoi/yuri: For romantic fan fiction rated G to R that is decidedly shonen/shoujo-ai or yaoi/yuri. Again, all f/f and m/m pairings are welcome.
7) Best Drama: This should be self-explanitory.
8) Best Comedy: As should this.
9) Best Parody: Slightly different from comedy. Want to write a SMJ fic that makes fun of "Titanic"? It would be entered in this category.
10) Best PWP: Ok ok we all write them, so why not make a category for them? This category differs from the romance and yaoi/yuri categories in that it is exclusively for plot-what-plot fan fiction (no plot to speak of, just sex). Typically these fics would have an R or NC-17 rating. Normally, a PWP fan fic wouldn't be entered into either the yaoi/yuri or the romance category.
11) Best Overall: Every fan fic will be entered automatically into this category unless the author wishes otherwise.
RULES:
Submit as many fan fics as you'd like to [email protected]. In the subject of the email, please write "Fan Fic Submission" so I'll know what to do with it. Also, somewhere in the text of the email, let me know which categories your fic qualifies for. Also, please give me your email address and web page and whether or not you would like links to either of these published in the fic archive.
By submitting your fic, you grant me the right to post it in the contest archives. You also agree to let me place it in the categories I see fit and to submit it for judging in the contest.
Plagiarism is the work of the Devil and will not be tolerated in this contest. If any plagiarized work shows up in my mailbox, it will not be published here. And my judges and I are familiar with nearly all the SMJ fan fiction out there. So please don't try to trick us. It makes us very angry.
And also, absolutely, positively NO Mary Sue or Marty Sue fan fics will be accepted!! Those of you who write them know who you are and what these stupid things are. I loathe them. My judges do, too. And they will not appear in the archive if I get them.
JUDGING:
I am just the site owner. I have no say in judging unless it is to break a tied vote or to settle a disagreement among judges. The contest will be judged by three anonymous judges, all of whom will have some knowledge of SMJ. Their decisions are binding and final. No judge will be allowed to submit fan fic to the contest.
PRIZES:
Ok, this section will be updated as I refine what exactly the prizes will be O.o;;;. Awards will be given for first, second and third place in each category, with only one fic being named as Best Overall. As of right now, I have a few Saber Marionette J trading cards which I would be more than happy to give out as prizes, but I have a feeling this may not be incentive enough. Here are my ideas for prizes so far:
Awards Banners (for the first, second and third place)
Trading Cards: (for second and third place). These will be from Saber Marionette J, Sailor Moon, DBZ, and any other anime cards I can get.,br>
Original Fan Fiction by Lady Aoi: (for first place only. And sorry, all. Only one fan fic per winning author, even if said author places first in more than one category.)
