Hi !! I am Joanne :> (guess which one, no i am not the good looking jack russell/spitz)

I have been on earth for the past 32 years and been semi globe-trottin' since i was 17 years old.

anyway, I used to work in the IT line before becoming a training officer (T.O.) at Yio Chu Kang Employment Development Centre (under MINDS >> Movement For the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore). I worked with adults who are intellecutally disabled. Their age ranges from 19 to 50 plus . They do some form of simple contract work at the centre and then return to their homes after a hard's day work .In the centre, they also learn other skills like home living skills (cooking, cleaning, washing etc); functional academics (like money concept, simple calculations etc); travelling skills, community mobility etc...i was with MINDS for abt 6 years before going to Indonesia to become a volunteer with Singapore International Foundation as a SIngapore Volunteer Overseas for 1.5 years; i was with an orphanage for normal/disabled children/youths etc. the HQ is in Malang, East Java, some 2 hours' ride from Surabaya. More information maybe found under my segment : letter from indonesia ; or through website: http://www.bhaktiluhur.com . after coming back to Singapore , i worked with Singapore School for the Visually Handicapped for about 1.2 years (teaching Multiple handicapped children and autistic children) . Subsequently, i joined the Rainbow Centre (Margaret Drive Special School) as a teacher in the STEP programme (Structured Teaching for Exceptional children Programme, the STEP programme involved working mainly with children with ASD / Autism Spectrum Disorder . WHEE! what a mouthful! Basically, I enjoy working with children , especially disabled children as i find them fun to work with and they are innocent and unpretentious. it gives me great joy if they are able to perform well and learn to lead a normal life ! My life now also involves commuting to and fro to meet my indonesian boyfriend who is working in Riau . but soon , he will go back to Java to look for a proper job so he can marry me! haha. well, that being the point, i still dabbles in some form of social volunteering work whenever possible! My future plans? Am thinking of working towards a degree in special education, climbing base camp of mt everest, trekking in northern india like Leh, Kashmir etc and opening a couple of social centres for street children in third world countries just to name a few... wish me well! p/s: update (dec 2004): the bf has gone back to java, he is currently trying out with a shop selling foodstuff, ; i have started a blog to pass time off ;p haha, just for fun lar; http://www.yohe.blogspot.com then, i am currently taking a part time degree in special education from flinders university, south oz ; havent trek much (not to india , yet, gonna be on hold bcos of financial constraint) ;p
