For almost all, the two-day event is the first exposure of their art in the United States and presents a wide spectrum of aesthetic positions and media from painting, drawing, sculpture, performance, installation to video, film and new technologies. A combination of smart programming and a high achievement record have established ISCP as the most sought-after residency on the international art circuit. The program has created an interactive transit zone for artists and curators, unique to New York or any other world capital. Small wonder then, that ISCP attracts the most promising of emerging talent in the visual arts worldwide and is booked out years in advance. The appeal of ISCP is its outstanding success at connecting its artists and curators to the local art community, while connecting the local art community with contemporary art practice from all over the world. While New York maintains its position as epicenter of contemporary art practice and market, its abundance of resources, opportunities and stimuli, are factors which can alienate and overwhelm the newcomer. The program aims to meet the practical needs of its artists and curators as well as addressing the complexity of navigating the world's art capital. ISCP provides an infrastructure, which accelerates integration and interaction with the host culture. In the course of its development, the program has become the largest visual arts residency in New York City and a catalyst for introduction, presentation, connection, exposure and dissemination. The ripple effect is that ISCP has become synonymous with a springboard for international careers. Out of over 300 artists and curators hosted by ISCP since 1994, many are now represented by New York galleries and have been included in numerous group exhibitions and projects throughout the United States and abroad. Founding Director, DENNIS ELLIOTT and Program Director, BREDA KENNEDY, welcome you to experience ISCP firsthand and join the participants in their studios on December 12 and 13, 2003.
