| My name is Deepika Ramprasad and I am in 4th grade. This website is about my dad, Ram Prasad who is a very good singer. I am really proud of him. My dad was born and brought up in Bangalore, the garden city of India. Now he is settled in California, USA with my mom Usha, brother Vaibhav and me. He has two masters, the first one is Masters in Electrical Engineering from Youngstown State University, Ohio and the second one is Masters in Computer Science from Cleveland State University. My dad loves Kannada. He makes us talk in kannada all the time. He is proud that Vaibhav & I speak in kannada well, even though we both are born & brought up in U.S.A. He was the president of Kannada Koota of Northern California for 2 years (2001 & 2002). He has also serverd the Akka convention (2003) as the entertainment secretary. By profession he is a software engineer, but by passion he is a singer. His main interests are Light Music and Semi Classical Music. He has learnt Karnatic classical music for many years. He started his music lessons from his aunt Mrs.Nagaratna Murthy. Later on he continued learning at Ayyanar College of Music. Then he was a student of Vidwan M.A.Narasimha Char and Vidwan S.Shankar who are also wonderful singers. He was introduced to Kannada Movies by G.K.Venkatesh.I am sure he is greatful to Mr.Maruthi Shivaram, a movie director, for encouraging him by giving him his first chance to sing in his movie Bandhi. B.R.Chaya who was also learning music at Ayyanar Institute of music asked him to contact Mr.Maruthi Shivaram who was known for encouraging new talents.. My dad recorded 2 songs on a cassette (Bantu Reethi Kolu, a thyagaraja krithi and E-Bandhana from the movie Bandhana). Mr.Shivram liked my dad's voice and called for an audition with G.K.Venkatesh at Deccan Studios and got selected for the duet that he sang with B.R.Chaya. Later he sang for a few movies, Kannada & Telugu T.V Serials under music directors like L.Vaidhyanathan, M.Rangarao, Mano Murthy, V.Manohar, Guru Kiran etc., before coming to the US for higher studies. He has given many programs on T.V & All India Radio. Now he goes to India once or twice a year to sing for albums and movies. His song "Moodal Kunigal Kere" from the movie Nanna Preethiya Hudugi became a superhit song and came on SUN TV's Top Ten songs for several weeks in succession. He thanks Mr.Nagathihalli Chandrashekar & Mano Murthy for giving him this beautiful song, which made him popular through out Karnataka. I like that song alot and so do alot of other people. He has also released many albums and has sung with great singers like Chitra, Vani Jayaram, Manjula Gururaj, Ratnamala Prakash, Kasturi Shankar, B.R.Chaya etc., My Dad, my uncle, Shekar Chikkappa, Manohar uncle, and another friend of my dad Dr.Renuka Ramappa produced a movie called Prema Preethi Pranaya under the direction of Ms.Kavitha Lankesh, which ran for 100 days. Manohar uncle had given the music. Two of the songs that my dad sang, "Kabbina Jalle" with Jayashri and a medley of old kannada hits, with K.S.Chitra have become very popular. My grandma & grandpa said that it was coming on T.V every week in Bangalore. Recently he got involved in the making of a kannada movie "Miss California". Eventhough the movie was not a commercial success, he is very satisfied with the experience he received, since he was involved in all different steps of the production of a movie. Apart from this, he is also very happy for getting an opportunity to sing with popular playback singers like Kavitha Krishnamurthy and Shreya Ghoshal. |
