Here are some comments from students who have gone there...
I learnt and
improved a lot of my French when I was in Rambouillet! The teachers teach
and interact with students only in French and we learnt different things from
different teachers. They are all very dedicated, helpful and friendly! I also
made a lot of foreign friends there, as there are a lot of foreign students
studying there, and we all stayed on the campus. We not only studied, but had
fun together; it was really interesting to learn about the different cultures!
I gained a
better understanding of all things French, eg. the language used on the streets
(l'argot), the culture and cuisine and in general the savoir vivre of the
French. As the Institut is an international school, I also made friends from all over
the world and every day, I learnt new things from my schoolmates about their
cultures and civilisations.
The Institut International de Rambouillet is a great little school in a small, friendly town. It is
easily accessibile to all amenities, plus it's only a half hour train ride to
Paris if you feel the need to paint the town red on a weekend.
To
get there, I had to take the train from Paris. It was my first
time commuting to/from Paris alone in train and I enjoyed it tremendously - it
is not difficult and I learnt how to look at train time-table. When I
arrived on the campus, I wished that the facilities were more modern but I enjoyed it anyway.
I enjoyed companionship at campus meals, short walks and Paris tours and bought
many, many CDs. Lessons were interesting, especially phonetics and there
was a good mix of
teachers for the various different topics.
Teachers: They were very helpful and friendly. I am happy to have corrected my past mistakes and learnt new ideas. In particular, I liked the language lab where we learnt phonetics in groups using music, lyrics etc.
Course & Course mates: There was a also very good mix of Dutch, Russian, German, Spanish, British, Japanese and of course myself a Singaporean – I liked the fact that we had different teachers for each component. There were also group and individual assignments where we compared and contrasted the differences between our own Mother Tongues and our Cultures against the French Civilisation and the French Language. I found that very enlightening .
Extra-curriculum activities: Whilst there classes like Drama/Music/Cooking, I participated in the DELF workshop which fulfilled my personal objective.
Excursions: I wished that this was also part of my 2 week curriculum (the excursions are once a month) – but nevertheless I understood from other course-mates that they enjoyed the outings with their teachers
Campus: Though not that modern and new, I was quite comfortable with what I was given
Cafeteria: Sufficient for a 2 week programme in terms of variety and the cost.
Computer Laboratory: I went there almost every day (for a couple of hours) to go on the Internet. It was a very useful tool in for my assignments and of couse, for surfing and checking my emails! Had a chance almost every day for a couple of hours and as appreciative for its use as it helped a lot in assignments and of course personal communications
Neighbourhood: Serene surroundings and quiet neighbours – Thumbs up for nice walks and "stress-free" environment Cafés and grocery stores/supermarkets – There were sufficient to keep me happy
Transport: Within the neighbourhood – I believe that walking is best mode of transport and it's healthy too. Train station to commute out of Rambouillet – Ticketing staff were friendly and helpful.
