| The World Animal Day is celebrated around the world each year in the first week of October. This is a day to: 1. to publicly recognise the important contributions animals make to the society; 2. recognise the important role pets play in the everyday lives of millions of people; 3. pay homage to endangered species in effort to bring global awareness to their plight; and 4. to promote animal welfare in all other ways. In addition, 4 October is also the birthday of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, where many priests offer a blessing of the animals. In recognition of this day, we take a moment to remember millions of unwanted lives that have to undergo the fatal needle each day; remember all those animals who were put to death or abused. Please never contribute towards adding to the number of strays on the streets by abandoning your pets. Please also try to minimise the number of unwanted animals born into this world each year. Sterilise your pets and contribute towards sterilising the strays. |
