I refer to the letter "Cat tales" by Lynda Kok (Streats, June 9).
I feed cats in Singapore everyday. I also trap the same cats, sterilise them and feed them responsibly. There are Singaporeans who fail to sterilise their pet cats, allow them to roam and then dump their unwanted pets and the litter of kittens all over the island. The solution to the stray cat problem is organised sterilisation and active participation by private individuals in a clear and consistent regimen in co-operation with the AVA. Stray cat populations don't disappear by themselves. This requires organisation and commitment by both public bodies and individuals. Stray cat feeding, sterilisation and public education are the only workable solutions. Lynda Kok, like many, see only part of the issue.
