"I didn't marry him"
"Why? You should have"
"But I didn't"
She got up and walked over to the piano and sat, he came and sat next to her and he naturally touched her knee but she jumped away in pain and he asked moving his hand away "What happened to you?"
"That day we talked I stayed there all day and thought about what you said afterwards I broke Tony's heart and told him that I loved you and he got really pissed and he slapped me and I thought you know that was it..then on my way put I supposedly slipped down the stairs even though the next door neighbor later saw him standing at the top of the stairs after I fell and I hurt my leg."
"So he hit you."
"Yeah but I'm fine except my leg, it hurt badly when I fell, he didn't even come and see if I was okay a neighbor came out."
"I'm sorry about what happened to you"
"It's okay, What are you doing?"
"Where have you been?" he asked looking over at her as she got up and began to walk around.
"I've been in Switzerland at my cabin, thinking about my life and why I want you in it and how much I need you to take care of me, especially with my leg like this and Tommy decided he wanted to spend the summer with his Dad so now I am all alone."
"We can't just jump back into a relationship, you are in love with me this week but next week you are about to get married again so..I have to think about it."
"Well I understand how you feel and I respect it, I just came by to tell you that and I'll see you later okay."
She looked for him to say something but he didn't so she just left and he stood confused this time.
She went by her regular life after that day waiting for her leg to heal and herself emotionally. She was sitting at her desk working on some papers dealing with her case when her paralegal Tammy walked into her office "How you feeling?"
"I'm not too good, I'm gonna go, my leg hurts very bad, I feel like an old lady."
"Want me to help you to your car?"
"No but thanks."
She gathered up her things, her suitcase in her hand and her bag on her arm she went out her office door. She was walking through the parking lot to her car when she dropped her purse she was about to grabbed up but someone else did and she looked up to see Kevin and he asked "Are you okay?"
"Yeah I'm fine"
They continued to walk to her car and he had to break the silence "How's your leg?"
"It sometimes feels fine then others it kills me, driving is difficult."
"Well let me drive you, to my place, we'll hang out and talk"
"Okay"
He watched her in her short dark green skirt and jacket with black stockings and her hair pinned up with a big cup of coffee in her hands she stood looking out the window. He had to admit with her there he felt more happy and more complete with her just being around.
"You feel okay" he asked her not turning to her sitting on the couch
She turned walking over to where he was "Stop asking me that I am fine..but actually I never felt better, you are the most charming man in the world and when I look at you I can't believe you're real and I let you go."
He laughed a little as he look over at her "You didn't let me go, you have me, you just better not mess up again..this is your last chance."
She laughed and stood up "Better?" now you know I am not the one to take that."
He stood up walking towards her now walking backwards "What are you gonna do about it."
"My leg is messed up so I can't beat you-" she was about to fall but he quickly picked her up "Physically like I want but-"
He cut her off by calling her name and she answered "Yes"
"I love you"
"I love you too"
He laughed a little "Good, now back to you beating me."
He began walking with her still in his arms "Oh yeah I can't beat you physically like I want but I can beat you in pool cause I always do."
He couldn't help but laugh once more.
He was so glad when her leg heeled. She still had a small limp but the Doctor said that would never go away but he didn't care he thought it was cute. After that day she seemed to re-invent herself She was more loving and willing to open up to him. She cherished him and their relationship more and he did the same for her. He knew this girl was just as in love with him as he was her.
"You grew up here?"
"Yeah"
He looked over at her in dark blue jeans and cozy brown sweater, She was grabbing the edge of the sweater and looking out the window her long hair in a ponytail. They riding the road he knew to well. He the place so well cause he'd grew up there. Finally he stopped and he climbed out and so did she and she grabbed his hand "So this is the house you bought" she said pulling him up the walk way.
"Yeah"
They both walked up to the door and he opened it and they went inside, the place was a huge ranch style house, it had shiny hardwood floors, she went upstairs to look around and came down after a while walking over to him "I could see myself living here forever with kids"
"Yeah I know you do." she hit him as she looked around more "Do you want to see where we are getting married."
"Yes I do." she grabbed his hand as they walked out the door "But if I see a bear or something, I'm running away ..far away."
He laughed as he locked the door back . They'd gotton engaged about a year before and she couldn't be happier for the first time in her life. She was happy and at peace with her self and her life and she had to say that was a feeling that she liked.
