Introduction

A mere decade ago Sinai Academy was just a dream. Even back then, it was clear that the demographics of the Jewish population in New York were undergoing a dramatic change. After years of fervent prayers, the Iron Curtain finally creaked open. We were faced with a mass outpouring of Soviet Jews who wanted to escape the tyranny of the Communist regime. We were grateful to G-d for allowing this miracle to happen before our very eyes. But what we didn't understand back then was that this blessing was also an awesome challenge of our generation. Today, the immigrant population is all around us... a hundred thousand immigrants have arrived at our shores to this date. And they're still coming. Dressed in trendy t-shirts, baggy jeans, and sneakers, they are quickly lured by the American Dream. It's a deep and menacing problem, and we are faced with it every day.

Fortunately, there is a solution. About ten years ago, the Roshei HaYeshiva recognized the gravity of the situation. With their wisdom and foresight, they understood the need for an institute for Jewish education that would guide these precious lost souls. With G-d's help, these boys would be nurtured and molded until they develop into the future leaders of their community. The Roshei HaYeshiva called upon Rabbi Aryeh Katzin, then a young former refusnik living in Israel. He was asked to confront the challenge. Today, under his dynamic leadership, Sinai Academy stands out as the shining star on the horizon. It is a realization of a dream. Finally, hundreds of young Jewish boys are given a chance to become true Bnei Torah. They begin by learning aleph-beis, the stories of the Torah, the hashkafos of Yiddishkeit. And slowly, little miracles begin to happen...
