Since I’m thoroughly sick of answering the same questions on The Sims BBS every day, I’m making this FAQ. Personally, I think one could easily find the answers to these questions on their own, but apparently not. If you’re insulted by the title, that’s too bad. You can put in some effort and find the answers yourself, just like I did

About once a week someone has the great "new" (they always say it’s a new idea, too) that there ought to be pets in the game that you can train and run over, and walk and flea dip and…

MAXIS has said since shortly after the game’s release that there cannot be dogs or cats because the game’s engine (programming) doesn’t allow for 4-legged animals in the game. So we’re sol on this one until there’s a new game, folks.

You saw objects that look like pets. I even have a turtle on this page. The thing about user-created pets, many of which you can get at www.killersims.com, is that they aren’t very good. Most of them are stationary objects cloned from dollhouses. Those like the turtle, the simsplus pig, or the killer Sims pets that do move are cloned from the fish tank or something similar, and all they do is move a little and make a mess. You’ll probably never find a pet that can be trained, walked etc. because object makers are even more limited than maxis is. We can only clone objects, which means no new functions.

I suggest you go to your nearest dodge or ford dealership. There are no cars for the Sims that can leave the lot, so don’t expect to get one your Sim can drive anywhere with. The cars you can download are purely for decoration.

Exactly 3 days, or 72 Sim-hours from the time the cradle shows up in the house.

For the longest time I couldn’t figure out why so many people couldn’t figure this out since I’ve successfully raised babies since the day I got the game. Someone told me this is why: some people think that putting their Sims free will on and giving them high autonomy will make them look after the baby without prompting. This is not so. The Sims don’t have much in way of a nurturing instinct, and will not care for the baby unless you direct them to. Taking care of baby is pretty simple as long as you know the following things:

1. When baby cries, pause the game and get rid of all other pending actions in the Sims queue. The baby can only cry for about 30 minutes without soc warning you or coming if you’ve already been warned.
2. Feed the baby, then sing to it. Then sing to it again. (you can click on a spot on the floor to get a "go here" icon then click sing again if you’d like) Don’t play with it. It doesn’t affect their personality, and most babies scream more after you do. If the baby continues to cry you must feed it or sing to it until it stops, or it will be taken away.
3. Baby will sleep for exactly six hours after your Sim puts him or her down once they’ve stopped crying. This gives your Sim plenty of time to nap, eat, shower, socialize etc.

Not unless you want the soc. to take it away. A couple of people have figured out how to work and keep baby, but that’s only something I’d recommend advanced players try, so I’m not mention how they did it. What you can do is this: have dad miss work the first day, have mom miss it the second day, have dad miss it the third. Since Sims only have to work every other day, they can keep baby and jobs this way. Kids can take care of baby and miss a little school as long as they study too, if you have a single parent with kids in your game. Of course if you use the baby cheat on my cheat page you won’t loose your job then, either.

You can’t. For some reason MAXIS hasn’t ever been responsive to the idea. Personally, I think it would be no more difficult for them to include than the maid or gardener, but they even said there are no plans to make one in the last developer’s chat.

The "one you can download" is a skin, not a character.

There are people who tend to tell you that you can move a Sim into your house to look after infants. While this is true, you still have to keep that Sim’s needs up, so it’s no different than having one parent Sim be unemployed. Too much of a hassle if you ask me.

Sorry, kids don’t grow up. Maybe in the next version of the Sims.

There’s no such thing as Baby Growup, so far as I know. There is Kid Growup though, that’s a third party program offered at Slink’s Burrow. Lots of people have claimed it "screwed up" their game, so use at your own risk. It works fine for me, but it does have one odd quirk to it. If your kid isn’t on the lot (like at school) using grow up makes a tall kid. I think it’s neat, but you might not. Then, I’m one of the people who really really wants toddler/preschoolers/teens/elderly in the next Sims game.

Forever. They don’t come back, sorry. S/he should have studied.

Just like grown ups and skills points, you need to make the kid happy before sending it to study. Let it watch TV or do something to increase fun points, then they will study their little hearts out.

There isn’t one. The closest to sex in the game is playing under the covers in the heart bed.

Download the censor remover. They have it at lots of sites. The Sims exposed has a censor remover/nude skin pack on their sites.

I dunno, they’re self-righteous and uptight? It’s your game, do what you want with it, you paid for it.

There’s no "suddenly" you clicked on the kid’s face icon as it was turning into a child. I think this causes the twins to have no personalities too. The second twin will not be able to be controlled (like the clones in LL) if the twin bugs you go to buy click shift-ctrl-c and delete it.

Yes, in two cases.

1. You download a "buyable" baby from a fan site. You can buy as many as you want.
2. You have LL and use the heart bed. A bug in it allows couples to keep producing babies unlike kissing which only let you have one.

Unfortunately, there is a draw back to having more than one baby at a time. It won’t affect their personalities, as some fear(given the twin problems), but they only get one name. All babies born within the same 3 day period get the lastborn’s name, regardless of gender or amount of babies. Read my re-naming instuctions on the cheat page.

Only to go to work and school. They can’t visit the neighbors unless you switch which house you’re playing and invite them over.

Maybe they should, but they can’t. That’d require a whole new game engine and much faster computers than are made now. Think about it, the more details, the more ram and higher processor needed. When there are 12 gig Pentiums and 800MB RAM computers, then that sort of thing will be possible.

No for both. Some people have made it **look** like they have but you are limited to just 2 floors.

They don’t. MAXIS couldn’t have gotten a teen rating if they could, so the bars don’t get them drunk.

Because there are a million sites with it. Go to yahoo and type "Sim cheats."

Some people can’t stand the thought of other people having fun in a different way than they would.

"Why isn’t there an object every week like MAXIS promised?"

They never said that. They promised something "new and fun" but they obviously have different ideas about fun than I do, but… with all the fan sites out there now, who really cares? It’s not worth getting upset over like some people tend to do.

For some mysterious reason, they mean Thursday in the Eastern Hemisphere. I find it odd, given that they leave anyone not in North America out of contests…

MAXIS hates you. It’s ok, they hate me too. Put your albums on zing.com like I do if you still would like to share them.

Download Homecrafter from thesims.com. Then create or download jpgs and bmps you’d like to make into floor tiles and wallpapers.

Download art studio and do the same as above.

Ok, go into your Maxis/The Sims/Game Data/Skins folder. Pick a skin, they start with the letter "b" and open it in a paint program (I recommend downloading a demo of paint pro 7, which you can find under "free downloads" at cnet.com) alter the skin to your satisfaction, make sure it’s in 256 colors, and re-name it with a new extension . Something like the original skin is B004Fafitmed_joe so call yours B004Fafitmed_horsey. Don’t change any letters or numbers before the _. There’s a good tutorial at the Sims resource.

A mesh, if you don’t know, is pretty much the Sim’s body beneath his skin. Like our skeleton, really. To make a new mesh, you need to go to and download Bodywarp. http://personal.cfw.com/%7Ecyclone/ It’s a simple program, and there may be instructions for it on the site, but I didn’t need to read them if there are. What you do is to open into your skins directory and select a mesh to alter. Then you pick body parts to change size(how I made the pregnant skins) until you’re happy with it. Be very careful to re-name the mesh, since it won’t ask you if you want to replace the mesh you altered. Then, just remember than the skin must have the same Bxxxx name as your new mesh to appear in the game.

Personally, I don’t suggest attempting object making until you can make the above, since making objects is the most difficult thing to do. Once you’re ready to try, you’ll have to download the Transmogrifier (t-mog) at http://www.lushcreations.com/TransmogrifierDocumentation.htm Before you attempt your first object read the Tutorial on the site! So few people do, and get all confused. Basically what t-mog does is to copy an object then make copies of the pictures that go into the objects for you to alter. Like I said, it’s not easy, and you should read the tutorial. There are other tutorials at Jenny’s Sims and 7 Deadly Sims.

Unzip it to the proper Maxis/the Sims/game data folder. Floors in floor, walls in walls etc. The only exception is houses which are in the Maxis/the Sims/user data folders.

At the Mall of The Sims, The Rooke’s Nest and Sims Plus. But really, winzip is easy enough for a child to use, and since 99.9% of sites use it, you better learn how too. We can’t. We can only make an object that starts out as something already in the game. That means we can change how things can look, but we can’t make anything with new actions and uses. Maybe some day MAXIS will let us use their object builder, but for now we can’t as much as we’d like to.

Buy a copy, it’s on the back of the jewel case. People who buy games don’t tend to want to help people who have warez copies.

Sure, a company that wants your money is going to let you download the expansions. Are you insane?
