| " The Futurama Cancellation..." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| FOX has bought a total of 72 episodes from the people that make Futurama and since only 56 episodes have been aired, FOX has enough episodes to continue on until Season 5, maybe longer. So, until FOX airs all or most of these episodes, and if Futurama can maintain it's good ratings then FOX will renew its contract and buy more episodes. So technically it's not cancelled, but really it is. As of now, the producers of Futurama are slowly starting to let their staff go because without funding from FOX they can't make new episodes. A worry of Matt Groening's is that if FOX does renew Futurama's contract that by then the animators for the show that were let go will have other jobs and won't be able to come back resulting in the perminent cancellation of the show. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| They got into the mess basically because of the time slot they are currently in. They air on Sundays @ 7:00pm/6c. Since most of the beginning of this year and years before, FOX aired NFL games right before Futurama, many episodes were preempted, or postponed. Not to mention that FOX didn't bother to show new episodes many times for no reason by showing movies instead of their usual lineup, or showing repeats of The Simpsons. This backup of episodes is what caused all the cancellation stuff to happen. It's not Futurama's fault. It's FOX's fault basically. This has been an ongoing struggle with FOX and Futurama for a while on a good time to air Futurama. If the executives put it in a new time slot then they would probably get more episodes aired. Also, Futurama's ratings have been pretty good too. They have come in #3 for the 7:00pm Sunday time slot for the past few weeks now and #2 one week I believe. The ratings aren't the issue at stake though. It's a matter of getting FOX to renew Futurama's contract and getting them to make more episodes. A recent thing that happened that is making us fans mad is that Futurama's Season Finale will be on April 21st. All of the other FOX Sunday shows will end in the end of May and they got to start their seasons in November whereas Futurama's season started in December. Despite the backup of episodes and constant attempts by fans to get FOX to renew Futurama's contract they just ended the season early with a grand total of 12 episodes. FOX has seriously screwed us. So, we can not change the fact that the season finale will be early this year, but we can still change the cancellation. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Please remember to be friendly in your letters. Ask FOX nicely to put Futurama in a better time slot and also ask them if they can advertise for Futurama more like they do for King of the Hill, The Simpsons, Malcolm in ther Middle, That '70s Show, etc. And I want to say thanks to all you loyal fans that are helping the cause by sending in all these letters, and e-mails as well as signing the petition. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
