Morality of Jesus Journal

The key idea about the Morality of Jesus presented in this section is how you treat the least among you. This teaching of his morality is from the judgment of nations where Jesus describes how we will be judged when the world ends. It is the most important part of his morality because it is the sole thing he will judge us on.

One of the most important things I have learned from this section is the Sermon on the Mount. It has many of the important teaching of Jesus including the Beatitudes and the new interpretations of the Law.

Another important thing I want to remember is the story of Le Chambon. They were a village in France that defied the Nazis and took in Jewish refugees and did it without asking questions. One of the most striking things about the story of this village is the women who said that they did it because “It was the normal thing to do”

A third important thing I want to remember is C.S. Lewis’ Mere Christianity. The four chapters we read clearly explained what this thing known as Natural Law is and proof that it does exist. IT helped explain why people act the way they do and have certain urges to do what is right even if it goes against a primary instinct.

A Christian is someone who knows and follows Jesus’ teachings. I consider myself a Christian, though according to the survey I’m not one. But what can a survey tell you about something as important as that? Though I don’t know specifically what Jesus says word for word I think I know the core of his teachings and how he would expect me to act and even though sometimes I don’t follow his teachings I still try to most of the time. The way Christianity affects my system in the biggest way is that I won’t hurt others and usually help people in need. I think those two aspects of my morality are most affected by Jesus’.

What I can do to make myself a better Christian is to become clearer on what Jesus specifically says. An example of this is that on the survey I didn’t know what he meant by “lusting” as that could be taken to mean a couple different things. Another specific thing I personally need to work on is loving my enemies. This is probably the hardest thing for me to do, I just can’t stand people I don’t like or people that don’t like me and sometimes my anger towards them can get a little out of control, which overflows into the teaching Jesus gives about anger.
