Key Moral Teachings of the Catholic Church Journal
The main idea of this section was
the teaching from the Catechism. These
included the teaching that freedom is described as a freedom TO not a freedom
FROM. The sources of morality says that the morality of human acts relies on
object, intent, and circumstance. In themselves passions are neither good or
evil, what we do with them is. Conscience is a judgment of reason. The cardinal
virtues are prudence, justice, fortitude, and temperance and the theological
virtues are faith hope and charity. Sin is an offense towards God. We are also
have responsibility for the sins of others if we participate directly,
encourage the sin, not hindering the sinner, and by protecting evil-doers.
There are also two types of sins, venial and mortal sins.
The first thing I want to remember
from the section is the OPTION method. This method is used when trying to make
a moral decision, it involves looking at your options, prayer, testing,
information, obligations, and looking at new options.
Another thing I want to remember is The Ten Building
Blocks of Catholic Social Teaching. The ten building blocks are the
principle of human dignity, the principle of respect for human life, the
principle of association, the principle of participation, the principle of
preferential protection for the poor and vulnerable, the principle of solidarity,
the principle of stewardship, the principle of subsidiary, the principle of
human equality, and the principle of the common good.
A third thing a want to remember is
Fr. Knapp’s description of what a conscience is. He says it is a power and a
process. It is the power as a human’s sacred center and of reason, and it is a
process of weighing knowledge and principles.

One good question I want to ponder: Will I use my
conscience to make my moral decisions?
To make myself a better and more moral person
from the study of this section would be to actually follow what it teaches. If
I took to heart the teachings from the catechism and the ten building blocks my
conscience would be much better off. Another thing that would help me is if I
used the OPTION method to help me make all my moral decisions, if I used this
every time there would be a good chance I would make the best decision I possibly
could every time.
