| Multiple Utilities Disc (M.U.D.)- version 2 |
| There are always certain tools that a server or PC engineer comes back to time and time again. For me, the cream have been utilties like Partition Magic, Drive Image, Ghost and a collection of some Dos boot discs that give me CD access, and/or NTFS access if needed. Like you, I have carried around images, floppies, and images of floppies so that I can always re-create these tools if needed. One of the tools I came across about a year ago was Ultrabac. This is one on the best backup programs on the market, but a hidden gem that many don't know about. If you are fed-up with re-building your Arcserve databases, give this a try - you will have the benefit of on-line IMAGE backups of your servers (like a Ghost image) that can restore the server to its last working state. This comes (or at least used to) with a disaster recovery disc option that produced a bootable CD-Rom. I needed to modify it to add an extra SCSI driver on, and that's when the idea came to me to add more things to it. I popped over to the King of Bootable CDs site, Bart Lagerweij, and set about making a multi-boot CD. My first attempt got a framework in place, but some of the utilites did not like being booted from a CD, as the floppy disk emulation did not allow them write access. I would love to give you all of the utilites here, but you know I can't do that. If you have any or all of these, you can mix and match to make your own disc, and if you find something cool that I've missed out, you can e-mail me. Mark Simpson. Last update 18-09-2002. Work in progress. Coming soon - ERC Commander, Norton Utilities, and single-boot images of Partition Magic and Server Magic.
