Mon 17.12 - We caught bus to Surfers Paradise. Its only 1 and half hours from Brisbane. Surfers is really, really touristy and is full of Japanese, not that I have anything against them. I bought a present for Erin, my Godchild and posted it. Claire and I booked tickets for Wet and Wild ( a Water Park) tomorrow. We then went down to the main beach. It is lined with high-rise apartment blocks for 3 miles. We were in a dorm with Irish couple from Kerry and Dublin. Didnt get names.
Tues 18.12 - Up at 8.30. Breakkie and went to Wet n Wild. Loads of different water rides. They had names like Riptide, Mammoth Falls, AquaRacer. But my favourite was Double Screamer. It was a near vertical drop and Claire was very nervous, but we managed it. Great fun but I would not queue to do it again! We lay by pool for a few hours and then caught bus back to Surfers. Met Jim and Maria again. Theyre going to Wet and Wild with Kate and James tomorrow. He'd love it.
Wed 19.12 - Checked out of Sleeping Inn Surfers and got bus to Byron Bay. Its full of dope and hippies. Managed to get a campsite. We went for a walk to the Byron Bay Lighthouse. The most Easterly point on mainland Australia. We walked back through the forest. Loads of noises and insect but we survuced. We met Nick from the Whitsunday Cruise. We also saw a fella that used to be in Home and Away.
Thur 20.12 - Lay on beach all day. Claire slept of course. I read. We met Ronan from Monaghan again. Thats Darwin, Alice Springs, Cairns and Byron Bay we have met him in! We caught bus at 6.50pm. Stopped in Ballina for a meal break. Arrived in Coffs Harbour at 10.30pm. YHA hostel picked us up.
Fri 21.12 - Checked out of hostel and went for walk around Coffs. Very hot. Back to hostel. Lay by pool. Met Jo and Caroline (they were on Whitsundays cruise too). Watched "The Simpsons" and "Scrooged". Got left back to bus stop. Loads of cockroaches at bus stop. Got bus at 11.45pm. Asleep by 12.30am. Woken at 4.05am for breakfast!!! Back on bus at 4.35am. Managed to go back to sleep. |
