| Sun 09.09 (continued): Bus stopped at Sandfire Roadhouse for a break and we arrived in Broome at 7pm. The journey was 610 kms. Kev and Kyla recommended the Kimberly Klub so we booked in there.Had a few beers and bed. Mon 10.09 - Ventured around Broome for the morning. Its a hard place to find your way about. Went to Chinatown area, and to the Pearl Luggers Museum. Broome is famous for its Pearls, supposedly. After lunch we caught the bus out to Cable Beach (so called as this is the place where the telegraph Cable from Asia reached land!). Set up tent at Palm Court Caravan Park. Right on Cable beach. Talked to neighbours with identical tent! Amy and Tom. Cable Beach is 22kms of uninterupted sands. Lovely! We went for a walk along a bit of it. Realised after a while that we were walking thru the "Clothing Optional" area. This was purely unintentional! Due to the lack of cooking facilities at the campsite we had burgers for dinner, and chatted to Amy and Tom for a few hours. Tues 11.09 - Filled in diary in the morning and then Claire and I went to Cable Beach along with Amy and Tom. Tom and I rented a surfboard and we both had our first pitiful attempt at it. It was a great laugh but we weren't very sucessful at standing on the board. To see photo click here . On way back to Campsite bought wine and cigs. Ate dinner and then drank the wine. About 11pm someone in a campervan told us about the suicide bombers flying into the Pentagon and the World Trade Centre towers. Strange moment. Wed 12.09 - I felt hungover, but we decided to walk to Gantheaume Point at the end of the beach. It could be seen in the distance, but when we started walking towards it, it wes further that expected. We went there to see Anatasia's Pool and the dinosaur footprints. But the Pools was more like a pothole in the road, and the footprints were 20m off the coast and could only be seen a low tide. Walked back. Exhausted and had blister on my feet. That evening the four of us went to the Sun Cinema. We were early so we went to the Sports Bar for a drink. There were 3 girls in bikinis serving behind the Bar. According to Tom he heard that they get $30 an hour for wearing a bikini and $40 an hour if they go topless! The Sun Cinema is different in the fact that it is an outdoor cinema. Worth Visiting if you are in Broome even with the $16 price. Saw "State and Main". Not a very good film. The highlight was a plane flying overhead landing at the nearby Broome Airport. Thur 13.09 - Took down tent. Said our goodbyes to Amy and Tom and moved back to the Kimberly Klub for a night. We met Kyla and Kev again. Also met Pete and Meg, and two Irish girls, Lizzy (from near Carndonagh) and Maggie. Pete is getting a flight back to Perth and on to London to Tomorrow morning. In the afternoon I got hair cut and we posted home jumpers and jeans as the weather is getting so hot. We also phone Gary from Bunbury's mate, Wayne, who lives in Derby. Were going to call with him. All day people were watching CNN reports from New York. The images of the plane crashing in to the building was unbelievable. We said our goodbyes to Pete. Fri 14.09 - Watched more CNN this morning. The more you think about it the crazier it gets. Saw Pete in the afternoon. Ansett the airline that he was flying with to Perth, folded this morning and he was left stranded at the airport along with 40000 other passengers all over Australia. He now going to get a bus to Darwin and buy a new flight to London and hope that his travel insurance covers him. At 7.15 pm we caught the bus to Derby. |
