ABOUT MYSELF

Hi there! J

I'm Rahil.

I'm a singer, songwriter & musician living in sunny Trinidad, Caribbean.

For my recordings I play all instruments and sing my songs, but for live performances I have my band ‘Rahil with Come Together.’

I was born in Calgary, Canada on June 28th, 1979.

My favourite colour is ORANGE as you may notice J

Due to my parents I grew up listening and loving the Beatles(as well as ELO, Pink Floyd, Billy Joel and

other groups and artistes from back then (50’s, 60’s, 70’s music). I also love my 80's music as I grew up during that time)

I have been singing and writing my own songs and recording them since I was 10.

I had always wondered what George Harrison sings in 'My Sweet Lord' and growing up in Trinidad with our Indian culture abound,

I knew it had to do with Hare Krishna, but as I was not so exposed to any Vedic upbringing

myself I was still at a loss, but wanted badly to know more.

When I was 14 I got the opportunity to read 'Chant and be Happy' and I immediately stopped eating animals and began trying to chant.

I had not met any devotees but I knew of the temple address.

Each year there is what is called the Divali Nagar which is a 10day or so celebration on Divali(return of

Lord Sri Ram and Srimati Sita Devi to Ayodhya after 14years of exile).

I went to seek out the devotees there for a few years in a row, but it was only in 1996 that I first spoke

to them and bought a Bhagavad-Gita.

It was Janmastami(the anniversary of the Birth appearance of the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna) 1997 that I first got to visit the temple of Sri-Sri Radha-Gopinath.

Since then I have been associating with the devotees and trying to practice what I can.

I am not a devotee myself but I know Krishna is God and since 1997(due to the inspiration of George Harrison) I began to write Krishna conscious songs and in 1999 I recorded my first cd entitled 'Gaura Vani' on which I play all instruments(vocals, backing vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards, drums, percussion){as Sir Paul McCartney does and did especially on McCartney & McCartney II albums and on many other recordings} and sing 10 original songs with the 1st track being

the prayers to Srila Prabhupada and the 12th track being the prayers to Lord Nrsimhadev(these prayers I

sang with just acoustic guitar).

I have lent and given copies to friends and family and devotees(here and overseas) who were interested and I have gotten generally good feedback.  It's 5years I recorded that first cd and I have much

more music on tapes from home recordings.

I need to have my cd mass-copied and packaged for it go anywhere beyond the currently limited audience.

I don't only write Krishna-conscious songs.

This year I should be recording a couple new cds this year in studio of

older songs and new ones also.

I have had the opportunity to perform with a couple incarnations of my live band

"Gaura Vani" a few times over the last 5yrs that I have been

associating with the devotees.

Some devotees love what I do, some don't.

According to the Bhagavad-Gita, Krishna says to use everything in His service, and

this is what I learned from George Harrison's life and this is what I am trying to do myself.

At public programs I would take a chance now and again and bring some instrument, but if not, I would at

least play harmonium or mrdanga and sing(if I am permitted to lead).

I don't put on the devotee clothes because I am not a devotee. I used to wear it when I associate, but

then so much weight was put on me in terms of what spiritual advancement I should be at, etc, which I am not willing to pretend about.

I am just a spirit soul, a musician, singer, songwriter who knows Krishna is God,

and who loves the Beatles, each of them, and who is greatly and eternally thankful to George Harrison for

enlightening me and the millions of others he has helped and inspired thru his music.

‘Gaura Vani’ (“the Message of Lord Caitanya” – the same name of my 1st cd) used to be the name under which my live band went when performing for Krishna conscious shows, but I decided to just have one live band title regardless of where I would be performing or for what, and so my own band project is called ‘Rahil with COME TOGETHER’ (after the Beatles' song of course).

Over the years I have had bands in school and also played in other friends' bands.

Some of these friends went on to form the locally popular band ‘Bazodi’.

Some of the other bands to which I am connected are "Flying Crapaud" in which I played keyboards in 2002, and I have been playing bass with "KRUCIFIX" in studio as well as live since June 2003.

I’M ALWAYS LOOKING FOR NEW MUSICIANS FOR MY BAND “Rahil with COME TOGETHER”.

ANY MUSICIANS INTERESTED IN PERFORMING WITH MY BAND “Rahil with COME TOGETHER” PLEASE CONTACT ME A.S.A.P.

Right now I am especially seeking a new drummer.
