| Dani paused outside the bathroom door, listening to Catelyn's sobs. Everytime she heard another sniff, she felt more and more guilty. How could she have forgotten? Catelyn had come right out and told her that she had feelings for Nick last night, and now, twelve hours later, she was walking around with her arms around him, rubbing the fact that Nick liked her better in Cate's face. She knocked lightly on the door. "Caty?" She called softly, praying that Catelyn wasn't mad. The door swung open. Catelyn was holding a wad of toilet paper, and routinely wiping her eyes every few minutes. "I'm s-sorry." She choked out. "I didn't mean to. . ." Dani stepped inside the bathroom and closed the door, so that no camera people walking by could get a shot of this. "You don't need to be sorry." She assured her, wiping away a few of her tears. "It was my fault. I should have set my alarm last night, and I shouldn't have blown off the rest of the group. And I shouldn't have gone off with Nick after what you told me last night." She hoisted herself up onto one of the sink fixtures, and held out her arms for her friend. "Will you tell me something?" Catelyn burried her face in Dani's shoulder. "Only if I can use your shirt as a hanky." "Ofcourse you can!" Dani assured her warmly. "I think it's Michelle's shirt." "Yeah, well you're the one who has to walk around with snot all over the shoulder all day." Catelyn reminded her. She blew her nose on the wad of toilet paper, and lifted herself onto the sink next to Dani. "What was it that you wanted to know?" Dani looked down at her hands. "Are you in love with Nick?" Catelyn coughed once. She looked down, too. "What to you mean?" "I know you said that you had feelings for him." Dani began, she was choosing her words carefully, so that Catelyn wouldn't start crying again. "Are they just feelings or are you, like, in love with him?" "Are you?" Catelyn asked. The question was so sudden and unexpected, that Dani couldn't even answer it. In fact, she wasn't sure how to answer it. Which was strange. Because she'd only been asked that question a half a million times before in her life. But there was something different about the way that Catelyn asked. She asked as if she really wanted to know, not as if she was teasing her, or trying to get her to admit that she was, so that she could have something to write about for her next article. It was like a completely different question. And Dani didn't know the answer. "Wash your face." She said, finally. "Let's go back before anyone comes looking for us." Catelyn studied her friend for a minute, then slid off the sink, and ran her face under the cold water. "Okay, if anyone asks, let's tell them it was PMS, okay?" She asked. Dani grinned. "You got it." She slipped her arm through Catelyn's and they walked back with linked elbows. Dani started humming the Wizard of Oz theme, but was cut short by Catelyn hitting her lightly. "Shut up." She said, rolling her eyes. Dani grinned a toothy grin at her, but stopped the song. They reached th door of the greenroom, and went back inside. "Welcome back!" Howie said cheerfully, looking up from the game of Speen he was playing with Michelle. "Took you long enough." Kevin snapped. "We've only got ten minutes." Catelyn's eyes widened. "What? Damn. And I have to re-do all my make up!" She hurried over to the mirror, and started hastily re-applying it. Dani sat down next to Michelle to watch the game, and was about to annouce that she was playing the winner, but Brian and Nick sat down next to her and interupted the sentence she was forming. "Is she okay?" Brian asked, looking worried. Dani nodded. "She's fine. It's just, you know, woman problems." The two guys squirmed in their seats and blushed. Dani stifled a laugh. "Why so worried, Bri? Got a thing for Cate?" She didn't really think that Brian had a thing for Catelyn, but it was a way to get the attention off of her friend's little break down. But Brian surprised her. His face reddened, and he grinned. Dani's mouth fell open. "Wait, what? You do? You honestly like Catelyn?" Nick laughed, and punched Brian in the shoulder. He was about to say something, but the greenroom door opened, and a man in a head set stuck his head inside. "Everyone follow me? You're on in five." |
