"Well, that was fun."  Dani announced, pulling her sweat-soaked shirt off her body, and throwing it on the floor of her dressing room.

"Yeah, nice dancing out there, Cate."  Michelle said sarcastically.

Catelyn rolled her eyes.  "Shut up.  So I had an off night."  She yawned, and gathered her hair up in her fist.  "Damn, I smell."  She said, grabbing a towel off the top of the girl's clothing rack, and hurrying towards the back of the dressing room.  "I get the first shower."

Dani groaned.  "Caty, I smell a hell of a lot worse than you!"  She insisted, but Catelyn just grinned at her and disappeared into the bathroom.  "Fine then."  Dani said, glaring at the closed bathroom door.  "I'm using your deoderant."

"So, Dani."  Michelle slipped an old gray tee shirt over her head while she talked.  "Allie told me that you and Nick hitch-hiked back to the hotel tonight."  Her face was stern.  "Do you really think that was a good idea?"

"Sorry, mommy."  Dani said, pouting out her lower lip.  "I promise it won't happen again."

"Yeah, and besides, she had Nick there to protect her."  Allie pointed out.  She was sprawled over the little red couch in the corner of the dressing room, still reading her book.

Dani frowned.  "Excuse me?  He was
not protecting me!  If anything, I was protecting him."

Allie snorted.  "Yeah right.  What were you going to do if that lady turned out to be a serial killer?  Wag your finger at her and tell her that it's not very nice to chop people's heads off?"

"Yeah well, what could Nick have done?  Started singing to her and dancing her to death?"  Dani asked defiantly.

Michelle laughed.  "My point exactly.  You two are stupid, and you could have just walked."

"Fine."  Dani stripped out of her pleather pants, and pulled on a pair of old gray sweats.  "We'll walk next time."  Michelle nodded, satusfied.

Allie grabbed a TV remote, and flicked on a tiny little television set.  "Anyone wanna watch the concert?"  She asked, as a picture of the Backstreet Boys popped onto the screen.

Catelyn emerged from the bathroom wrapped in a towel.  "Oh, God.  Turn that off.  Like we haven't seen this concert enough."  She knelt down, and started rumanging through the pile of clothes on the floor for her jeans.

"Hey, Caty?"  Michelle asked.  "Can I ask you a question?"

"If I say no, will it stop you?"  Catelyn countered.

"Nope."  Michelle grinned at her.  "What was up tonight?  You didn't do the dance to any of the songs right, you missed your cue on 'Tell Me', and you kept switching keys."

Catelyn pulled her hair into a ponytail.  "Gee, thanks, Michie."

"Sorry.  But seriously, what's going on?"

"Nothing."  Catelyn said, just a little bit too quickly.  "I mean, it's nothing important.  I just had something else on my mind."

"Such as. . .?"  Dani prompted.

Catelyn looked at her for a minute, deciding whether or not she should answer.  "Nothing.  Aren't you gonna get in the shower?  You smell like shit."

"Thanks."  Dani said, pretending to be offended.  But she grabbed her towel, and disappeared into the bathroom.

No one else even bothered asking Catelyn what she was thinking about.  If she wouldn't tell
Dani, she wouldn't tell anyone.

"It's nothing. . . too bad, is it?"  Allie asked hesitantly.  "Whatever it is you were thinking about."

Catelyn smiled at her friend.  "It's nothing life-threatening, Al.  It's just a personal problem.  But it's nothing, really.  You don't need to worry."

Allie smiled, satisfied, and went back to her book, but Michelle was still thinking about what it was Catelyn was thinking about.  The girls never kept secrets from each other.  This was weird.  It had to be something big.
