A combination of Brains and talent; a singer , a songwriter, a poet, and a religious. The first of five children (his siblings: Maria-goretti, Clementina, Donatus and RoseMary), was born into a home filled with a lot of music, Jude-Mary found his way into the heart of all who knew him. With his usual �sing -talking�, he would make music of every situation: � it wasn�t like I didn�t take life seriously but I felt the need for a little �spark of melody� in all I did�. His parents, both former choristers , were his initial role models : �As a kid , I would listen to my Mum render a choral piece, on other occasions , I would listen to my Dad do a solo�.Combining a rare blend of gospel sensibility with today�s mix of hip-hop and RnB, �Jay� has created a style of music that is unique. Relating to music in the way the likes of R.Kelly would , he sees music as a continuous and free-flowing means of expressing one�s emotions and deep feeling about a situation. For the Nigerian who listens to the likes of R.Kelly, Wyclef Jean, Phil Collins, India Arie, Bob fitts, Paul Wilbur, Winans phase II, Mercy me, DC Talk, Mary Mary, Kirk Franklin amongst other artistes, as contemporary inspiration, Music is the �place� to be.
Speaking of his works: �My lyrics are borne of a relationship that began from the first moment of my conception( though I wasn�t fully conscious of it then) ,which I�ve come to embrace and cherish , it�s the one thing that keeps me going , the fact that Jesus loves me�. �Very few people speak of such a relationship�, he continues , �...even if it is the only reason we are living today�.His songs and poems speak of a love relationship that endures through thick and thin ; a relationship in which the Beloved (God ) is always faithful, while the lover seeks to perfect his love for the one he loves. The lover soon realizes that this is a daily struggle; a love that will surpass the barriers of time. This forms the pillar of his soul-inspiring songs, poems , reflections which he terms a continual discovery of the ONE �It is literarily everything I stand and live for�. �Jay� knew in due in due time this had to find expression in the larger world ; outside the confines of his home. He made his first ever appearance in the music scene in at the age of 17, with the Gospel group known today as Soul Thrill . Co-writing most of the group songs with Edwin-Mary; the lead-vocalist of the group. �I must confess , I did learn a lot working with him, even if we had our differences, musically , we where worlds apart ; he was inclined to Reggae while I had a love for RnB, we did work something out�. � I had to leave the group , not for a solo career, in 2004 just before the group went into the studio for her debut album .� � I had to live to answer a call to the religious life�. He is currently undergoing formation at the Dominican house of study, Ibadan, Nigeria. He is in his first year at the Dominican Institute of Philosophy and Theology, studying for the priesthood Meanwhile , he is hopeful about the future , about his dreams, and looks forward to a day when his songs (God�s inspired words) will console every broken heart and restore society to its original innocence.
In the meantime, his poems are inspiring millions around the globe to a greater appreciation of genuine reflection and conversation with God.
