Vicksburg
The Gilbraltar of the Confederacy
A fortress guarding the majestic Mississippi
That stood,
Watching silently

The Gulf forces merge with Grant's men
And traveled overland to Vicksburg
The thousands of men stood in lines
As they waited,
Watching silently

One, two, three
Brigades swooped upon the city
Assaulted and failed
Fell back,
Watching silently

A siege,
Two months of eating only
Dogs, cats, and rodents.
Yet Grant's men stood,
Watching Silently

Bodies
Piled high within the city walls
Panic came, while outside
The men stood,
Watching silently

Vicksburg surrended
The might fortress fell
The captured look back upn their once mighty city
And stood,
Watching silently
