This is the Gibson. It was found by a friend of ours along with the Gravely. I am here right after we managed to get it home. The rear tires were loaded, and the engine and front axle are all cast iron, so the little Nissan was at the upper end of it's towing capacity. The engine, Which is a Wisconsin TF, is stuck in this picture. We broke it loose with a sledge, heat, and a block of wood. When I tore it apart I found mud daubers had gotten into it through the exhaust and built a nest in the first cylinder. This caused damage to everything, but the exhaust valve seat was damaged the most. It now has a face of about a quarter inch because I had to grind it for about two days before it would seal.
Ok, Here's a nice picture of the oil sump, crankcase, block and head after I managed to reassemble it. The timing gears are in the front and the two holes in the plate are for the governor (upper hole) and the magneto (lower hole). This engine was an oily mess when I got it and there was mud mixed into the oil and...It just wasn't very pretty. The parts in this picture weigh about 250lbs and my dad and I had a hard time geting it on the tractor after reassembly. In this picture, you can also see the differential. It is believed to have come from a '30's Plymouth. It has Hydralic brakes (I'm still working on The Hydralics, though)The transmission has also been repalaced sometime In the tractor's life. I am guessing it was some time ago due to the fact that this newer unit is filthy. It works fairly well though.
This picture shows a nice view of the carburator, which is a Zenith. Italso shows the Fairbanks Morse mag, which only needed the points to be filed before it would spark. Also shown is the unique belt clutch. I discovered all guards have to be on, or it doesn't work correctly. I learned this the hard way. I almost drove through the house because it wouldn't disengage.
More pics on the next page!!!
