| Okay, This is a Briggs and Stratton 5s connected to a small Ohio pump. This unit was purchased at a museum dispersal auction near Albany in 1999.It had a crack in it, but it ran (and still runs)well. | ||||||||||||||||||||

| If you look closely at the lower right hand side of this picture, you will notice a grey strip along the iron block of the pump. This unit had a crack in it and was inoperable when I recieved it. I made the repair with JB weld, probably one of the most useful substances in the world (along with Duct tape). also the packing on the pump was bad (as you can see from the water leaking out of the opening in the middle). All of this was repaired, and, aside from a new belt, this machine will be shown this coming summer. | ||||||||||||||||||||

| Okay, I thought that i might point out an unusual part of this pump. The round object in the middle left of the picture is an electric pressure cutout. I found out that this type of pump was often used inside a house with an electric motor to provide water out of a shallow well. It will build a significant pressure, but the packing doesn't hold very well above 50 psi. Oh, I should also add that this engine was one of the first 5s engines to ever be built. The serial number is only 10xx (I cant remember right now) it was built in 1949, the first year of production for the 5s | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Update!!!! After running for 2 years after having a major valve job, this engine is finally getting to the point where a full overhual is going to need to be performed sometime soon... Project for the summer of '07, perhaps? |
