Author’s Notes: Something different for me, but it had to be done. Thanks to Lorien_Eve for the beta and everything else…
After fifth year, Ginny couldn’t sleep well whenever Hermione stayed at the Burrow. Ginny's mother thought she was doing her a favor by having her and Hermione share a room. Ginny knew her mother thought she could use the company, being the youngest of six older brothers. But it was torture for Ginny. She would lay awake listening to Hermione's soft snore.
Hermione would deny she snored, but she did. Ginny would tease her, though she thought it was endearing, but she would never tell her. She liked Hermione, more than she would admit to herself. More than just a best girl friend.
Ginny liked boys, she knew she did, but Hermione was funny, though people didn't realize it. She was smart and had turned into a beauty. Ginny knew that Hermione liked her for being herself and didn't just put up with her as another Weasley.
Hermione's best friends were Ron and Harry, Ginny knew, but Hermione never made her feel left out and unwanted.
Ginny wasn't quite sure what she wanted from Hermione. Friendship or love. More than anything else, Ginny wanted to lay in Hermione’s arms and cuddle with her.
She lay in bed night after night and wondered what she should do. She wanted to walk over to Hermione’s bed and lay with her. It made her heart ache with the longing it caused, but it would change their friendship forever.
Her mind raced with ideas. Could she do it on the premise of a bad dream? She knew that Ron comforted Harry all the time from his bad dreams and premonitions. How could this be so different?
Her heart ached again as her eyes became two puddles of tears. She couldn’t tell Hermione, could she? But she couldn’t go on like this. Ginny wanted to share private moments with her. She wanted to tell her private secrets. Tell the things that no one would understand except her.
Ginny finally summoned her courage and got up. She quietly tip-toed across the wooden floor. She stood at the side of Hermione’s bed and stared at her.
“Hermione,” she whispered.
Hermione let out a snort and opened an eye. “Ginny,” she said sleepily.
Ginny just stood there feeling very exposed in her threadbare nightgown. She began to shiver slightly.
“What is it, Ginny?” Hermione barely had her eyes open.
Ginny sniffed. She could feel her eyes turning into big puddles again.
Hermione opened her eyes wider and asked, “What’s wrong? Are you okay?”
Ginny shook her head and stared down at her bare feet.
“Come here,” Hermione said softly and reached for Ginny’s hand. Hermione scooted over in the bed and pulled the covers back.
Ginny crawled in and sunk into Hermione’s arms as they wrapped around her.
“It’s okay. Did you have a bad dream?” Hermione whispered in Ginny’s ear.
Ginny slightly nodded without really meaning to. She couldn’t tell her, could she? No, she guessed not. This was good enough for now.
Hermione stroked Ginny’s hair as she whispered soothing words in her ear, but her mind and heart were racing. She liked this more than she wanted to admit. But this was Ginny and it would change their friendship forever if she told her what she really felt for her.
Hermione sighed. This was good enough for now.
