Chapter Four - Tuesday
They had to wait in New York for a few hours for their connecting flight to Miami. This was turning into a very long day and night. Harry and Ron both found seats near the gate they were going to have to catch the flight at. Both guys were exhausted and lay back in the seats to take a nap.
After a while, someone pushing his shoulder awakened Harry. It was a security guard.
"Would'ja shut up ya friend?"
Harry turned to Ron and saw and heard that he was snoring at the top of his lungs with his mouth hanging open. Harry hadn't even heard him, because living with Ron for seven years in the dorms, he had just gotten used to it. Harry whispered, "Sorry."
He looked around at all the people looking cranky and staring at him and said, "Sorry." Harry then punched Ron hard in the shoulder.
Ron woke up and said, "Damn! What did you do that for?" He rubbed at the sore spot on his shoulder.
Harry said, "Because you are snoring and annoying everyone, and not just me!"
Ron looked around and said, "Oh...well, I can't help it!"
"God, Ron, isn't there a potion for that?"
"Shut up."
"Don't get all cranky at me." Harry knew they were both just crabby because they had been traveling so long already.
"Don't tell me what to do! I'll be in a crappy mood if I want!"
"Yeah, to the misery of everyone else..." Harry said under his breath, but loud enough for Ron to hear.
Ron glared at Harry, got up and stomped away. Harry shouted after him. "Drama Queen!"
It was the only mean thing Harry ever said to Ron in reference to his homosexuality. Harry though, had the feeling, even if Ron was straight, he'd still act the drama queen.
Harry didn't care that Ron had walked away. He knew Ron would get over it. Ron would just get mad for a while, go somewhere to cool off and come back later, everything fine. Harry was used to this by now.
The few hours finally passed and Ron came back in a better mood, probably because of the food he had stuffed in his mouth. Ron offered some candy out of his pockets to Harry and he knew all was okay.
They boarded their next flight and continued on to Miami.
When they finally arrived in Miami, Harry and Ron were more than exhausted, but knew enough not to bicker at each other. They just wanted to check into their hotel. Hermione told them the easiest thing was to get a taxi to the hotel, but first they needed to get their luggage.
They waited with all the other passengers around a carousel that had the luggage go around and around on it. Ron wanted to ride it, but Harry pointed out the signs that said people couldn't get on the carousel.
They finally found they luggage and realized they were going to have to grab for it. They did it with minimal damage to themselves and others and began walking to the curb outside to get a taxi. There was one waiting for passengers, so they walked up to it and asked the gentleman to take them to Vacation Villa Hotel.
Ron was less protective of his luggage this time and the man took the two pieces and placed them in the trunk of the car. Harry and Ron climbed in the backseat. When the taxi got going, Ron was leaning out the window and pointed out all the scenery flying by. Harry smiled and was started to actually enjoy himself and thought maybe this vacation would be fun after all.
Their hotel was Bayside, across the street from the marketplace and Harry, who had made sure he had kept all the documents, talked to the lady at the check-in desk. The lady at the travel office had arranged for them to pay cash for two weeks stay up front. Hermione had said most nice hotels didn’t do that anymore, but this one was middle of the road in classiness, so that's why they didn't really have a problem with it.
Once they had received their keys in the room and the bellman had taken their luggage upstairs, Harry and Ron followed up in the elevator and went to their room.
Harry gave Ron one of the keys with strict instructions not to lose it, as he open their door and they walked into the room. There were two double beds with a nightstand in between. There were, also, a table and a chair. Ron poked his head in the bathroom and it was simple but clean.
On the nightstand was a book that had information about the hotel. Harry flipped through it and read some of the pages. Ron walked around the room, looking pleased, and then ran over to the window to look at the view.
Ron said excitedly, “Oh, Harry, come look at the view! It‘s beautiful.”
Harry, who had flopped on the bed wanting to go to sleep, turned over on his back and pushed himself up and sat. Harry said tiredly, “Is it?”
Ron turned around and said, “Come on! Come look!”
Harry lifted himself off the bed, walked over to the window and Ron had been right. The view was beautiful. Harry could see the bridges highlighted in the sunset light and the tall buildings to the right of the business district. Harry was happy Ron had talked him into this.
Harry said, “Ron, thanks.”
Ron said, “For what?”
Harry said, “For making me do things I don’t want to do.”
Ron said, “Well, you’ve spent your life being responsible, so it’s about time you have a little fun.”
Harry smiled and said, “I’ll try!”
Ron smiled back and said, “You’d better!”
They both turned and looked at the beds and flung themselves on them and promptly fell asleep.
