Well, as the banner says, it's time for me to show you how I build my kits. I thought I would start with Kate because I can show the piccies, though not very good, from the start. If you havent read the preview, then please take a few minutes to do so, since I'll be doing my best not to be repetitive through both articles. Here goes...
Well, when you build in quarter scale, the cockpit is always a rather large and important feature so luckily, Hasegawa have given us a very nice and detailed section. As you may have seen in the preview, the cockpit is made up of three main sections, two side wall plates and one floor section. There are quite a few additions to make, the throttle quadrant with lots of other controls, radios, the pilots and two companions station seats, and of course the control panels. I've left the
the latter off at this stage for painting the fine dial details. But I'll come to the painting a little later!
I like to be build my kits in sub-assemblies, I feel it speeds the whole process up as I can then build a particular section, leave it to cure and get on with another sub-assembly in the mean time. Anyway, the engine is provided with alot of detail, but don't go over the top at super-detailing this part because most of it gets hidden when you install the engine cowling, unless of course you want to leave that off. You are given the option to not use the nose cone if you like, but I like to keep my aircraft as stream lined as possible!
The fact that you can have the flaps up or down is a nice little touch with this kit, you have to cut two connecting sections off if you want the flaps down or cut the center section (as seen in pic above) to have the flaps retracted.
The three wing section, one lower and two upper parts go together beautifully, no fiddling, just put your glue on one side and stick it down, no clean up needed either! From the picture you can see how the rear stabilisers will interlock to make a stronger bond at the rear of the fuselage.
More to come shortly...
