| In Loving Memory Simon |
| Poems: I wrote these poems for my son Simon, who took his own life on 17th August 2000 after numerous failed attempts. He was 25 years old when he died. Simon was born in South Africa eleven weeks after our arrival there, I took him there safely under my heart, the last time we took him to his homeland was in a small container, but he was then safely in my heart forevermore. Simon now rests for all eternity on Table Mountain, he can watch the sunrise and the sunset in one of the most beautiful places on earth, he can see the sea, the surf, and the clouds and feel the warmth of the sun and the wind and the rain, he is free at last. Last night I dreamt that you came home again You kissed my cheek and said my name We laughed and joked in the same old way, And then you had to go away. Would that I could see your smile And you could stay with me awhile To see your green and sparkly eyes, Just one more time before I die. To walk along a street with you And remember things we used to do To watch the surf break on a beach, But oh, those things are out of reach. To hear you as you call my name Can I believe you really came? Was it a dream as just before, Or can I really hope for more? Two years ago today They told me you had gone away Gone away to a place where I no longer see your face When I saw you lying there On your face was no more care No pain, no tears, no trace of fear, You were in a better place my dear. One day I know the day will come When my time on Earth is done Then I will see you once again And you will take away my pain, And then again I'll say with pride This is my son who's at my side.
