This was the oddest crowd I've ever been part of, teens sporting fake blood, monster masks some people even dressed as cowboys, an odd sight seeing oversized cowboy hats bobbing up and down to heavy metal music. And just when I thaught it couldn't get any weirder, zombie, who formerly sang for the band White Zombie, played their old hit "More human than human" and out of nowhere a giant 30 foot robot appeared on stage(I'm not kidding!!) and stayed there for the entire duration of the song,as old clips of "Frankenstein" played on the screen in the background. The reason for the horror clips,Zombie is a huge horror fan,and even directed 2 horror movies,"House of 1000 corpses" and "The devil's rejects".(Zombie started his career off as a prodution assistant on peewee's playhouse!!).Formerly the guitarist of Marylin Manson, John 5 now plays guitar for zombie, and as an hommage to Canada, played short solos from canadian artists like Bryan Adams. At one point Zombie mocked Canada:"What do you guys listen to?Nickelback?" The crowd went in a rage, booing and raising their middle fingers to the air.Zombie wasted no time, adressing the crowd rarely, and quickly went from one song to another, allowing him to play lots of music from all 3 of his albums,as well as some old "White Zombie" songs. The concert was amazing, and I loved the statues of classic horror characters on the stage and the horror clips on screen,it proved Zombie defies the norm and does his own thing, unlike the boring un-original bands out there today, (such as Nickelback!!). The crowd was great and I would definately see Zombie live again!!(Although that would be in a long while,Zombie takes years off in between albums to direct movies, write his comic books and he's currently working on an animated movie. All this and he directs music videos for his own songs as well as other artists, talk about a multi-tasker!!!). |
