Whitby
Here is the famous Abby at Whitby. In the top picture you can see the ocean in the background to the right and the town along the cliffs. It was a beautiful day, but it was still rather cold. We spent a couple hours at the Abby- they have some interactive stuff in another building that was pretty cool. The Abby went into decline after the dissolution in the 16c. Some wealthy people bought the abby and residing area, and they left it up some say as a guide to ships and whatnot on the sea. The picture below is the abby from across from the river on the opposite cliff- looking through the whalebone gate. The whalebone gate is next to the Captain Cook statue- but the statue was only ok.
Above is a picture of some of the birdies in the area. Aunt Jean likes birds, so I thought I would throw this one up there for you Aunt Jean. The pictures below are from the GrandTurk! Molly is in the picture below. This was just awesome! I always wanted to walk around on one of these kinds of ships. I guess they used this in some TV show here or something (Horatio Hornblower). I loved it. I wanted to go sailing! I wanted to climb the rigging too! I even bought a small replica of the Endeavour (Captain Cook's ship). ARG! Me Hardee!
FIRE! Ha...ha..! Awesome! They even had the mini deck guns still in place- it was cool. Below are some final pictures of the sea crashing against the shores of Whitby- it was maybe the most picturesque view I have seen in a long time. The violent sea, the cry of the birds, the misty sea-spray, along with the sun cracking through from beyond small clouds made for just awesome views! Enjoy!
