Here is the keep, which is set back as far as you can get from the river. It is actually at the northern most entrance of the castle. At the south side of the castle is a sheer drop-off to the river. You notice in the foreground here, one of the castle wells. I have noticed these of course at all castles, but this one fit well into a picture. The gatehouse to the castle is that building with the black railing on top of it. The castle itself actually sits on a small hill, between two other rolling hills. |

Here I am standing in front of the southern wall of the castle. Beyond me to the north is the keep and gatehouse. Right behind me is Robin Hood Tower- it is more a ruins than anything. The prisoners in WWI were kept in the gatehouse and keep. You can barely see, but flowers are blooming all over the place here in England with the good weather. They even are budding out of the castle stones. Pretty cool. |

This is a picture from the top of the keep, looking southeast wards at the Swale wrapping around the gardens of the castle. You can see the houses are right up to the walls of the castle to the north here. You can also see that the landscape is really rolling foothills. |

Here, above, is a picture to the southwest of the castle of the River Swale and one of the bridges over the river. The picture below is a picture of the southern wall from the bridge in the above picture. You can see it would be really difficult to try and assult the southern side of this castle, and the keep to the north provides then the altitude to control the northen entrance as well. Good castle. |

Here is a picture of the falls of the Swale. The Swale had a lot of this slab-like stone that is very popular up north here. The slab-stone- which I think is called Yorkstone- is used for sidewalks in York. I even went in someone's house that used the stone as flooring in their house. |
