| This story begins with me signing up for a softball league in the area. With work alone, I feel pretty fried at the end of the week, throw in working on my Dissertation, and I am down right overwhelmed. While I have goals for paying off some of my debt by the end of the year, I have not made any for my Dissertation. The thing requires a whole lot of time, time I don't know honestly if I can put into it. So I am taking the Dissertation week-by-week. I need an outlet though, so I signed up for softball. The way it works is you put yourself on a waiver list, and if a team needs you they give you a call. So Friday night, after working all week and feeling burned out- I get a call around 8pm. The guy says he is putting together a 'competitive' team, and if I would like to 'try-out' I could show up the next morning at 8am. I told the guy ok, but when I got off the phone I had a nasty realization- I have not lifted a bat or ball in over a year now! So I quickly get online and look for batting cages in the area. I find one that is open until 10pm, and I grab my cheap bat and jump in my car. When I show up at this place, I have about a half-hour before it closes. I am the only person there on a Friday night, and I jump in the cage and let loose. Well... I didn't really hit the ball well, but what can you do? Anyway- so I go to leave, the guy shuts down everything, and I chat with him a few minutes as he shuts down. I walk out to my car, and as I get close to the car I hear all this crying. It sounded like an animal was hurt. I looked around in the darkness, and I even looked under my car, but I couldn't figure out where this noise was coming from. So I open my door, jump in my car, put on my seatbelt, reach over and start to pull the door closed when BAM! This little black thing jumps right onto my lap- scared the shit out of me! Here was this little baby, black cat that was all afraid and upset. It was meowing really loud and panting. The sucker was skinny as a rail, and it didn't look all that old. It clearly was lost or something. So I look around, and there were only businesses around the area. By this time the sucker is yelping and rubbing all over me. It was looking up at me like- Don't leave me man! I am a sucker. So I pick it up and put it down in the passenger seat, but it has serious abandonment issues and thinks I am trying to get rid of it. It jumps back on my lap. So I drive home with this cat yelping and crying on my lap the whole way home. By the time I get home it is chilled out with the crying bit, but it still won't leave my lap. So I leave the cat inside my car, and it starts screaming and yelling. I go into the house and tell Sean about what had happened. He says to bring it in. The little sucker was pretty thirsty, and she just wanted to chill out. So after searching the area around the batting cage the next day after 'try-outs'- yeah I got on the team- I realized I probably wasn't going to find its prior owners. So I went to the store, and I was standing in the catfood isle. This old man walks up to me and starts talking to me about his cats. This old-tater looked as if he was once a boxer or something, his nose was all bashed in, but the dude is talking tender about his felines. So he asks me about 'my' cat. I tell him the story, and he just smiles. He says- 'Yeah, cats and dogs are different that way, cats choose their masters, and it sounds like you have been chosen.' Great. |
