Indonesia:Bali and Lombok
When: February 1997.
With: alone.
Itinerary: Inbound flight to Denpasar, Kuta Beach, Tanah Lot Temple, Mengwi, Lake Batur, Mt.Agung, Besakih, Ubud, Padangbai, Sengighi, Kuta Lombok, Padangbai, Ubud, Sanur, Singaraja, Bangli..
Transportation: I used buses (the company Perama has probably the most comprehensive service) in Bali I rent a motorbike for 10 days, and I had a boat transfer from Bali(Padangbai to Lombok and viceversa).
Books I had with me: Lonely Planet Indonesia, "Day of Judgment" by Jack Higgins...(dont ask me why.....I guess I found it in my backpack)
A few raccomandations: enjoy the peacefull and friendly atmosphere, visit Tanah Lot Temple, Ubud is a great place, there is a pub called "Casa Luna", at night is quite good, you can watch video, or simply relax and drink a beer. On the Monkey forest road almost at the end, there also a pub (a biker pub....but I am not sure I was quite drunk) they stay open till late at night, they have a billiard and live music. Always on the Monkey Forest road, coming from the city centre, on your left before the soccer field there is a travel agency which belongs to two young guys, ask them to take you to the night market and eat some reice with chicken.....be ready to taste something VERY HOT. The two guys are very cool and fun to hang out with.
