While eating some ice cream, we noticed a group of people walking by wearing some strange white outfits. After ridiculing them for a while, we decided that we needed to be a part of the fun, and found out that these people were headed into an abandoned silver mine. Not used since the 18th century, the mine tunnels were dug into solid rock, and were extremely small. The miner's worked all day, six days a week and most of the rock removal was done by hand. This involved heating the rocks with fire, pouring water on top of them to cause fractures, and then removing the loose stones with a hammer and chisel. And you whine about sitting in front of your computer screen.
About halfway through the tour I got ahead of the group, so I turned off my flashlight and waited. When Dr. Jana rounded the corner, I screamed loudly, causing her to jump back and exclaim the czech equivalent of "Mr. God," which is the custom in the Czech Republic. We had a great time that day, and if Dr. Jana is reading this right now, thanks again for everything, and I promise to stop calling you Dr. Jana at some point in the near future.
