CONTRA DANCING IS FUN
We really enjoy contra dancing and go to dance events at Glen Echo Park's Spanish Ballroom, most every Friday night, and oftentimes on Sunday nights.  Occasionally the dance is held in the restored Bumper Car Pavillion

The Sunday dance is sponsored by the
Folklore Society of Greater Washington.  We also regularly attend dance weekends at:
--
Buffalo Gap, Capon Bridge, WV
--Chesapeake, Annapolis, MD
--
Falcon Ridge, Hillsdale, NY
What is Contra  Dance?
Contra dancing is a form of North American folk dance in which dancers form two sets of parallel lines running the length of the hall. Each dance consists of a sequence of moves that ends with couples having progressed one position up or down the set.  As the sequence is repeated, a couple will eventually dance with every other couple in the set.

Contra dancing was all the rage in 1800 and is still popular today.  Some good links below will describe more about
what the dance is; why people enjoy to do it; how to do it; and where and when the events take place.  (You already know who goes there!)
