| Raised in a musical family, her first musical persuits began at age 4. She started playing piano by herself while imitating her brother's piano lessons. She studied classical piano at the Thelma Yellin High School of the Arts (Tel Aviv). Jazz music was was always around (her father is a known bass player). At home they listened to jazz and she also discovered the beauty of the original Brazilian music. In 1993 Simona graduated from Rubin Academy of Music in Jerusalem with a B.A. in Music Performance/Jazz Piano. There she met her feature husband pianist Alec Katz In 1996-98 Simona continued her music education as a jazz vocalist at The Royal Conservatory in The Hague, Holland.There she had an opportunity to participate in the annual workshop projects of Barry Harris. While living in Europe she has made several recordings with some of the finest musicians there. Simona is currently lives in Israel, performing with the leading jazz musicians and teaching jazz singing and vocal improvisation. In 2001 she has made a recording featuring great jazz drummer Billy Hart. Simona Arones performed with her project "Mood Indigo, A Tribute to Duke Ellington" at the "Jazz at Cinemateque" Festival in Tel Aviv (2002). In December 2003 Simona together pianist Alec Katz has made a recording in New York featuring most promising New York musicians and a veteran Jazz/R&B keyboard artist Harry Whitaker Jr. She has recorded her own compositions, as well as songs by Donald Harrison and Pat Matheny for which she wrote lyrics. Simona and Alec has performed at the Spring Arts Festival Rishon Le Tzion (May 2004) "Jazz Europa" (June 2004) Beit Sokolov, Press House Tel Aviv (August 2004) Jazz Festival and concerts at the Givatayim Theater (May, September 2005) |
