Tiger Wood's PGA Tour 2001

Years and years of golf games coming out in to the market have not strengthened or properly balanced the frequent awful controls and confusing power meters, Everybodys Golf is the only golf game that is easy to use and the only one that has a place in my heart, is there room for another one?

The graphics of Tiger and co are absolutely gorgeous, the courses all look smooth and organised (as they should be) with the rough being a slightly darker colour then the rest of the grass, the courses seem massive and stretch for miles creating a great draw distant and no pop up to be seen. The golfers look and move like their real life counter parts and look extremly clean and clear with no visible glitching in the 3D models.

The gameplay is sadly where
PGA 2001 falls flat on the green, at first the control system seems interesting and quite exciting really as there seems to be a touch of realisim in there, to hit the ball off the tee you pull the left analouge stick back once and as the power meter fills up and the golfer swings his club then push the same stick foward, it is a genius control system but sadly it has not been used to its full potential as shots seem to be rather more of a random fair then skill, the wind must be measured and the course needs to be looked over. When you get the ball on the green it just gets even worse: the green should be able to be measured and judged from a few button presses but sadly this isn't the case as the different camera views don't give you any justice of how to judge the shot, but there is a great training mode in there but can you gain skill if the game isn't about skill?

There are 6 golfers on offer including the guy on the front cover and the other 5 are Justin Leonard, Brad Faxon, Robert Damron, Stewart Cink and Mark Calcavecchica, the choice for most people will no doubt be Tiger Woods. There are only 3 courses in the game but they are all very individual.

It could of been good but at the end of the day it isn't all bad, rent it and amuse yourself with some peculicar chip-ins!
