| Oh yeah, it's also fantastic how you can kill enemies in the choice you desire. Wanna be like Solid Snake, sneak into stealth mode and go for the head-shots. Wanna be a tough guy, throw yourself in the action and battle head-on, if you dare... Well, you would dare wouldn't you, as after every successful objective, you get a checkpoint, so there's no need to angry up the blood when you suddenly die and have to do a level all over again! Of course nothing of this could be achieved if there wasn't any firepower to blast things up: everything from your normal 8mm handgun -which you find in granny's closet- to a true device of destruction -meaning a weapon- that can see through walls and, bizarrely enough, can shoot guards through walls as well. My favourite is the taser gun: it ain't quick and it ain't big, but you can damn good fry your opponents -you should hear them scream, jolly terrific fun! Although the fun can get boring after a while, as enemies have the tendency to regenerate forever; creating a barrier of endless shooting so SF can sustain it's position as an explosive game, get the point? I'd reckon the game would be great with an eerie sound to guide you the way though, and pushing the tempo as tension grows, but you don't hear it at all. I mean; it's not a bad thing, I'm just pointing out that you can play the game with your sound off and still be able to enjoy the game; as normally in games like MGS - for instance- the music plays a great part, keeping the gamers excited and warning them about incoming danger. Not here though, as danger lurks at every corner, down every dark hallway, and on every path that stands between you and your mission objective. Well, the danger does lurk all the time, but the "combat system" - if you let me be so bold- can be a pain sometimes, as it isn't convenient all the time! You see, by convenience I mean that it isn't always easy to shoot someone that's standing two inches in front of you. Suffice to say it's all forgiven by a vast variety in gameplay... And after you're bored with the storyline -which will never happen, because the continuous changing of characters are gonna keep things cooked- you can challenge your mates and beat them in multi-player. This mode is not exactly "great", there's no four player ability and it's in awful split screen, but you'll have fun defeating your friends, wowing them with your excellent ability to kill in style with your favourite animated figure -mine's the "corpse". Wait, there's more: even mini-games are on the stakeout! They come in different categories; you can choose from mutilating mobsters to annihilating targets and the such, whatever turns you on. And these can be unlocked by completing the first easy missions, or finding secrets in Story Mode, if you can! As said, the game does offer a challenge; you'll experience it as an interrogation on the third degree. And trying to talk your way out isn't gonna be easy: snipers and guards and dogs and turrets and a combat system that fails from time to time will all try to stop you from eating the whole cookie. And that's exactly what the game is meant to do! No fantastic storyline, no multi-million dollar production, but pure and solid gaming; doing it's very best to make sure you stay awake in the middle of the night and to improve your hand-eye co-ordination to the max! So now you know, forget about the previous Syphon Filters and be the ultimate spy; experience the new age with this gun-toting baddie! This is by far the biggest, the coolest, the greatest Syphon Filter up to date, it's just a gripping game with a solid 3D engine and has the one thing that makes a game play: the gameplay, which has a sort of Bondesque feel over it. Just you wait till the developers enter the new millennium and we'll have a genuine Syphon Filter on PS2; instant classic! Syphon Filter 3 is definitely th game to buy if you don't have Sony's next-gen console!! In a nutshell: this game is really worth looking at: it's well advised to plunge into a great game like Syphon Filter 3, as this one comes closest to being a successful 007 story and stealth mix, without the women then. And without Bond of course... Rikki Van Gas 8.9 Stunning and exhilarating explosive combat Opinions Round-Up |
