| Grand Theft Auto 3 As crime and brutality are growing more and more across the globe these days, Rockstar Games decided to build their own little amusement park for gamers, but will the playing crowd accept this gun-toting, car jacking monster of a game? We all have played the previous GTA's and adored them for their mission-based levels where you would steal a car in order to answer some high mob-lord's call, These calls would command you to finish a highly illegal job on the street. Then sometimes you would find a Kill Frenzy, and shoot the sh*t out of everyone and everything standing in your way, even secret items were on display for you to find, but the low 2d graphics bugged the hell out of all of us: they were hard to handle and finding your direction was a real pain in the ass. Not with GTA3 though, this bundle of joy overcomes all of those things which made GTA I and II so bad... When the game starts, you will witness a cinematic of a prison van with a police escort leaving downtown police station in order to whoop some cons in the slammer; and your one of those, but soon another car drives beside you and seconds later you'll discover that the driver in the other car is here to bust you out, escape is then the only choice, and this is when you come into play in the wonderful world of Liberty City. This crime-filled, goddeserted hell-hole is a place with its own illegal living heart which keeps the city burning and never stops beating; this island has more filth in it than New Jersey! This is the isle that never sleeps: the Godfather's heaven. The City itself consists of three main islands, in the beginning you only have access to the first part, but as you play along and beat more missions the other parts will become available... The possibilities in this never-ending place are just unlimited: in every litlle touch a lot of work has gone into and you can literally do thousands of different things in this game, and I'm not talking about the missions alone... Actually, there are more sub-missions, extras and secrets than normal jobs, the fun never ends! There are certain cars, like taxis, ambulances,... which -with a simple touch of the R3-button- allow you to take people to their desired places, rescue the wounded, or even putting out fires. Also the other inhabitants of Liberty have undergone an amazing facelift: the guys and gals now react to their enivronment and you get a realistic feel of the whole thing... For example, when driving down one of the busy streets, you know that only a few blocks away some poor dude is being robbed, or a hooker is right in the middle of a "job" for a rich man with lots of money. All this is done in breathtaking, outstanding graphics with the overhang shots of the old GTA's being replaced by impressive "Driver-style" views. There's a lot of detail into the graphics, but the game sometimes has trouble loading certain parts of the scenery which will result in pop-up, this doesn't ruin a goddamn thing though!! You can also just run around town beating everyone face in a manner that they'll look like Wacko-Jacko afterwards, yet don't be too surprised if the guy (and in many cases old lady) hits back; what did I tell you, great huh. Well, onto the actual missions then; the main goal is to steal a car and complete an objective with the help of a few deadly friends, aka weapons. A huge choice of cool weapons are on display and you can choose between grenades, a baseball bat, a genuine rocket-launcher and my favourite, the sniper gun. With this baby you can kill some people from a distance, and if you can pop a bullet smack in his face, a sweet death will follow, it's to die for. You can also do the cool stuff like rigging a ride with a kick-ass bomb and letting the driver blow himself up, stuff like that; but I'll try not to ruin the picture. Page 2: Read On |
