Maybe this is all too much? Why do we need so many things? Sure, a plethora of new lanes and rounds of concrete have been built, but for what purpose? The game is a bit jacked up, like some cars, the developers tried their best to get as much as they could in the actual driving experience that the feeling is lost somewhere between a steaming engine and a hot carburator; Kazunori Yamauchi tested all the cars available, making sure everything was -is- perfect. You don't notice the new stuff, you notice the old things being enlarged and inflated.
Nonetheless, you stick to the end goal of finishing first in line, grabbing cash wherever possible and filling those empty spaces with gold cups of joy, watching spectacular replays of your victory against drivers that don't even exist. Spectacular, finally a word of gratitude I hear you say? The replay versions are marvellous to behold indeed, this is definitely GT's trademark; there's nothing sweeter than watching the races you've won, saving them and making people jealous by showing off your amazing driving skills. Anyhow, the races themself are nice too, but common: two hours staring at a screen for a single race? Getting mad because you can't find the right part to upgrade? Still, GT2 is great, that has to be said, albeit the frustrations that come and go with it.

It's hard to actually
guess what the human psyche looks for in a game though, everybody talks about just how realistic GT2 is, sharing words with each other like "how stunning, mate" or " want a cracker, buy the game"... Then you've got your other bus of tourists who complain that the game doesn't even have car damage, yeah car damage, nope, nothing, zilch, nada. For a racing-sim (mind the word -sim) GT2 doesn't boost car damage, believe me I've tried smacking my Tommy Kaira ZZ S-Coupe into a wall at 250 an hour, but only came to the conclusion that my car is indestructable. Finally, the only bad remark I will make that too others the game is just too realistic; they babble about the fact that nobody needs that much upgrading and tooling, and the fact that this real driving thing is well...just getting out of hand. Because after all, it's still a game; if every developer would go by the as-real-as-possible formula; then there wouldn't be decent games at all.
With all these things taken out, GT2 is an enjoyable title if you don't buy it just coz you want a better-as-real game, it's best to experience this for sheer fun, not for getting obsessed for a half year as completing 100% isn't gonnna happen overnight.
My opinion: if you're a die-hard Turismo fan, or you own the orginal GT, than it'd be best to put your claws around this beauty as soon as possible. Are you the fella who enjoys the pick-up and play method, GT2 would be good without all the shenanigans surrounding it. Still a quality and decent game though, graphics are good, handling is great, friendly user menus, etc... Denying it would be the same as saying Bob Monkhouse looks great for a man of his age,
To end in the words of the Great Bob himself: "Wipes me out everytime, till we meet again..."
