| Fear Effect 2:Retro Helix If Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix was to be made into a movie it would probally be animated Manga style and directed by John Woo thats maybe an unlikey combination but thats exactly the two things FE2 resembles. The visuals look exactly like Japanese animated movies and the dual guns and action packed gameplay are like that out of a John Woo movie and with that out of the way heres what I thought. Fear effect 2: Retro Helix is the follow up to Fear effect but is set before the events of the first game following the story of how the characters originally got together and also the story of new female character Raine who is a friend of Hana and who knows all about computers and gadgets. Throughout you control all four of the characters in their attempt to save the world from a deadly virus and must complete tough puzzles ( for me anyway) to progress. These are usually required you to exazim things more closely but in my view they instead just make things more frustrating then nessacary and slow down the action. FE2 is beautiful to look at, looking very like Japanese animation (With close ups of huge eyes even included) as said above and the cut scenes all use the ingame engine sadly with bad lip sching but apart from that FE2 certainly looks the part and in fact is one of the best looking PS1 games to date! The lip snycing may be a bit of a joke but the acting that goes with it is in fact pretty impressive although still not as good as the king of videogame acting Metal gear solid but it still probally deserves second place. gore, swearing and almost naked women. Yes FE2 is certainly not to be played by anyone below the age of 15 because of the adult content, Eidos guys this is evil stuff, is this really nessacary? well of course it is! lots of people like that kind of stuff and it should help boost sales. I've come this far and haven't even mentioned the fear meter which gives FE its name, for those of you who don't know what it is here is a little explanation. Fear kills people, right? well if on FE2 you enter a room with enemys in, your meter at the top of the screen will change colour along with a thumping heart sound effect to show just how scared your character really is also getting attacked by enemies will affect the state of your fear but solving puzzles or killing off enemies should restore their confidence. FE2 is a cool game but unfortuanly fails to be a classic thanks to being a bit too puzzle heavy for my taste, but the great plot and stunning gunplay make this a worthwhile rental!Simon Wigham 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 |
