| Extreme G 3 Tired of the Wipeout series? Let Extreme G sort it out! Comparisons with the futuristic Wipeout series were destined to be made, as Extreme G is also a far-future racing event, where breakneck speeds are the order of the times, and where Formula 1 looks slow! Comparisons out of the way, lets begin the review! Please forgive me if this review seems a little shallow, I'll explain why towards the end of the review. Unlike Wipeout (more comparisons) Extreme G is set on the ground rather then hovering just above, making your futuristic bike seem more stable then those hovering spaceships, planes, hovercrafts, whatever you want to call them! The visuals are excellent, pop up is completely impossible, as the tracks are so hidden round dangerous bends and over massive hills or jumps, etc, while slow-down isn't impossible, but only happens at an odd few occasions, which I am pleased to say. The race-tracks are amazing in glorious style and looks, the lit-up cities of the future are like something out of that sci-fi film you have just watched, and didn't understand, rain is brilliantly captured by the effect of speed, turning in to a soaked blur, is really a spectacular thing to watch, all the turbo-super-powered-motorbike style-jet propelled (ok, you get the picture) err bikes, gleam and fire out lovely looking coloured trails, oh and fire out other stuff such as automatic weapons and of course, the popular missile, which all look great, Extreme G 3, is one hell of a looker. Now more about those tracks: Which seem to borrow from most futuristic racers, is this a hint to our future of racing? I hope so! If tracks were like roller coasters, or better put described as roller coaster types, then Extreme G 3, would be top of the stomach churning pile, I mean it, these bikes even travel upside down at times, sideways, huge jumps, it's all here, and extreme-ly scary, but of course, it's great adrenaline pumping action! Races include, the important solo, and two player co-op league mode, where certain positions are to be reached, to progress on to the next track, during this edge of your seat rides, you can buy special weaponry or upgrade your engines, for much better performance, using money you have earned throughout this career, you start off in the slums of the league, and with time and patience you will be racing with the big boys, oh and girls of course, well forget the big part, well maybe not(big breasted perhaps), well never mind! The first problem is presented right in your face, and that is what makes this review lack a certain quality, as you begin the career league mode, and it's as simple as this, it is far too hard, tracks are unlocked with the qualifying position from the last one, and this position is at many times, too hard to reach. Other problems include the turbo on each bike, which is activated by holding down circle, simply because, you don't get enough for the length of the track, well there is recharge points, but these are few and far apart, adding strategic elements in to the race, but thats not the point, as the races just seem too hard, everything about them, which is a real shame. I'm not even saying, that the control system is hard, because that just would be lying to you, all the buttons used in the game are configured just right, airbrakes, acceleration, turbos and weapon activation, are all easily learned within a few minutes of play. Ok, sadly I have to give this very exciting game a very disappointing 6/10, simply because of the super-human-gamer expected difficulty, and it's a real shame, like, saying coke tastes nice, but it still isn't alcohol,a brilliant but wasted effort, better luck next time Acclaim, learn from your mistakes, ok?
