| Dino Crisis 2 Capcom releases its monster onto the streets. Resident evil is the night of the living dead of games while Dino crisis is the Jurassic Park of games, one is supposed to be scary (Resident Evil) while the other is supposed to make you panic (Dino Crisis). Both are slices of survival horror and both are from Capcom so read on about their latest scare�em up. Dino Crisis 2 is set one year after the predecessor, you still play as Regina the heroine of the first game but this time she has some help (which she is going to need) in the form of Dylan who is a strong ex street thug type. This time it is the government with the dinosaur plan (rather then Dr Kirk villain of Dino 1) A whole town has disappeared to be replaced by a jungle like environment so Regina and Dylan go in to investigate and rescue the remaining survivors (all told with a cool FMV sequence) and also to clear up those dinos. This time the plot along the way is very gripping and will keep you guessing until the end unlike the rather basic one of Dino1 which didn�t have any twists to surprise you at all, I won�t tell you anything about it though as I wouldn�t want to spoil it, what I can tell you though is it involves some mysterious survivors that attack you for no apparent reason and a whole host of new Dinos. Dino 2 has taken a similar direction to Resi 3:Nemeis and has become more action based. Gone are the frustrating puzzles of Dino 1 to be replaced by cool action set pieces where Dinos attack from all directions making it more of a challenge then ever before and the good thing about this is they just keep coming and coming so you always have to be ready for those lizard nuisances to jump out at you and surround you. Every time you exterminate a Dino on Dino 2 you get points known as Extinction Points, the bigger the Dino, the more points you will get and the better the move the more points you will also get. For example if a Dino is lunging towards you and you shoot it, It is known as a counter-attack which grants you extra points you can also do combos with killing dinos instantly one after the other which can build your points up to massive amounts. These points allow you to purchase new weapons and items to assist you along your adventure and also even things up a bit with those dinosaurs, this system makes it very rewarding and every kill worth something, and it works extremely well. A lot of the scenery is more Jurassic Park inspired then the first game with overgrown jungles to stroll around in, unlike Dino 1 all your surroundings are pre-rendered and much of the objects around you look un-solid, the useful objects again stick out like a sore thumb with each one shining to reveal their presence, overall though the backdrops are very nice to view. Mini games along the way prevent repetition setting in. In these you can drive a tank, blast triceratops, protect your buddy and do a lot of other cool stuff, they are certainly good additions to an already class game and will keep you playing. So to sum it up Dino crisis 2 is a great title and proves PSONE and dinosaurs still have a lot of life in them yet with the only real flaws being blasting dinosaurs over and over again could get repetitive and it is slightly too easy to finish, but otherwise thumbs up to Capcom for releasing yet another quality survival horror title.Simon Wigham 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 Opinions Round-Up |
