The good old machines have taken over the world and are using us humans against well er us humans by transforming survivors in to killing machines, luckily the guy you play is half man and half machine and he has a machine gun too, those alien machines don't stand a chance.
The story is set in the far future, where an alien invasion has nearly wiped out the human race, the aliens are abducting the survivors and turning them in to deadly killing machines to use against us humans, Vaughn (you) is Earths final hope.
C12 is basically an all out shooter in which you have to shoot all the aliens through the level to get further and then shoot some more to get even further, but it does have some neat little touches apart from the latter which are all explained below this very paragraph....
For starters the puzzles are very well designed, maybe not hard to work out always but they are cleverly put together, for example there are 3 boxes and 5 steam gushing pipes, how are you going to get past the steam? Push the boxes in front of the pipes of course, but there are only 3 boxes and 5 pipes, so how? Easy, push one box in front of the pipe and then get to the side of it and drag it from there, then get to the other side of it and push it towards the next pipe etc, it really is a clever puzzle designed game and the developers must take all the credit for that.
The graphics are good but on the other hand the burning cars in the backgrounds look a little shabby, but do remember that the developers are squeezing as much power as they can out of five year old hardware, and the lighting is very good and sets the mood for such a devastating future.
Vaughn is you and he gets some great firepower to play around with, his first gun, yes first gun, is a machine gun which is very surprising as you don't normally start a game with such firepower, and the rocket launcher is very cool, there is even a first person view mode with cool looking cyber features which allows you to pick up certain information from the surroundings or shoot something.
The missions require you to complete certain tasks such as blowing through a wall to get to a new area or switching on power etc, in true Syphon Filter style, missions can also be added to your current mission list.
C12 is an amazing game which shares a few ideas from a certain Terminator, and will shut up all the people who say the PSONE is dead, it is the best PSONE game in ages, long live the PSONE! Chris Wigham
