| Pinto Engine Model To help with the timing of the engine I have constructed a positional model relating the piston and valve positions. This might be of use to others, if so right click over -DOWNLOAD- and save target. Very basically you enter in the crank angle and the model will give the distance between the piston crown and valve edge. You will need to enter in some information on your engine like CAM timing and compression ration (CR). Note: if you have your head or block skimmed your Cam timing will be affected.
This first screen shot shows the main data screen. The user inputs the crank angle and the model outputs both inlet and exhaust information for the given Cam (in this case a Kent Camshaft FR22). I have opted to add data for +/-10° crank also, based on the fact my Cam drive pulley has this adjustment.
This screen captures the geometrical data for the engine. Any changes to compression ratio based on head skims etc. You will need to check the con-rod length, I have only ever estimated this due to the fact I had assembled most of the engine prior to creating this model. |
