One of the rarest plants in the world, only 70 Encephalartos Latifrons' are known to exist in the wild today. The Albany Cycad (E. Latifrons) is endemic to the valley region running between Grahamstown to the sea. E. Latifrons' main downfall is its unsurpassed beauty and rarity (although destruction of habitat may have played a role in the past). Those who assited in this endeavour to repatriate and re-establish E. Latifrons are Mike Reynolds, Estelle Brink and Max Ralo.
