I've always been a bit sceptical of 'blogs', as to me it seems a bit pretentious of people to put up their opinions and details of their life and assume people will be interested. Don't get me wrong, there's some interesting and well written stuff out there, but there's a lot of dross as well. So I've generally tried to steer clear of putting too much in the way of commentary on this site.

However, I've realised that there has to be something more than just the barest descriptions of the cartoons and a note of when the site was last updated. So this page isn't a blog, but it will show details of recent additions, as well as some of my thoughts from time to time. Meanwhile, if you want more details about any of the cartoons, they can usually be found by hovering your mouse pointer over the image.

27th February 2006
Well, I passed with flying colours. The site however remains on hiatus. Updates should hopefully follow inspiration, which is currently in short supply.
10th October 2005 - Rich', MA?
The course is finally over and in a few months I will know whether I can add a couple of extra letters to my name, Now I'm out in the real world with a pressing need to find gainful employment. Any offers?
15th September 2005 - Site Update and Latest News
Chess has been added to the miscellaneous page.

The frequent updates of the past few days have been the result of a very boring week in which I have had nothing else to do while my supervisor read through my dissertation. I have just got it back and so while I revise it the site will once again be on hiatus.
14th September 2005 - Site Update
My friend James is in the process of creating a website called Weblog of a Nobody. He asked me to do a piece of art based on the book cover of Diary of a Nobody by George and Weeson Grossmith. This I have done, and the result is here. I will post the link when James' website goes online (hopefully later this year).

28th March 2005 - Progress Report
I've been feeling a lot better about the art I've been producing lately. While I'm the first to admit there are many things that I still need to work on, I do feel I've improved a lot in the past few years. To demonstrate, below are three similar drawings I've done. At the top is one of the first I ever put on the website, which I drew in June 2002 as part of a cartoon strip for a friend. The below left one was from another cartoon strip and was one of my early experiments with Photoshop, in July 2003. The one below right was a one-shot cartoon I drew in February 2005.
Missi: June 2002
Now it's hard to tell at first glance, but there have been some big changes since the first one was drawn. The major change is that I'm using a computer to colour stuff in now, which gives the finished product a much better quality. Though my style remains much the same (note the blondes in Pictures 1 and 2), I am always making changes to it (compare noses and necks in Pictures 1 and 3) and experimenting (Picture 3 is drawn using a much thicker pen).

There are still improvements to be made, notably in basic anatomy (note the hands of the middle figure in Picture 3 - they've been modified in the
final version), drawing backgrounds (something I still get impatient with), and experimenting with multiple pen thinknesses to create a more dynamic style of drawing. But overall, I'm happy with the progress I'm making.
