Single Family Home #4
This is the fourth design draft I've made for a single family residence. It isn't the most dense of layouts and has quite a long footprint. The roof is sloped to one side from this front elevation yet the idea is that it curves gently at either side. As with almost all of my residential designs, an 8KW solar panel would be placed in the roof's centre in order to provide some sustainable, eco-friendly element.
The Porch is actually the master bedroom overhanging the entrance with a fairly sharp, postmodern look and also doubles as a safe supporting column for the room above and the balcony which is stretched around the North side to provide some protection from the elements while travelling to/from the garage.
The concept was to have a house that appeared to be a somewhat disorted variation of the contemporary mass-built home which spring up in many suburban & ex-urban developments by companies such as Medway, Barratt et al. It has long been my personal consideration that these houses look rather plain and dated and are poor attempts at recreating a traditional house type. So I added shallow arches above all the windows - an idea that came from seeing them on many victorian retaining walls and train stations, a semi-glazed stairwell and the aforementioned features.
STATUS: - draft completed 24-08-04, currently converting to Alias/Wavefront Maya 5 & Autodesk Revit 6
