What does it mean ?
Where does it come from ?
Simenstad is devided into two syllabels "simen" and "stad".
"Simen" is a man's name. It is a Norwegian version of "Simon" which comes
from the Greek "Símón". It means the man with the snub nose.
"Stad" means place.
So "Simenstad" means "Simen's place" Normally a farm started by a man named Simen. Or, as the case is for our family, my great grandfather bought the farm from a man named Simen.
So this means that it is several Simenstad farms around in Norway.
Here in Norway 155 people (1/1-2005) have the last name Simenstad. Most of them we are not related to.
