SUPPORTERS OF DEPOSED PRESIDENT GAMSAKHURDIA DEMONSTRATE IN TBILISI.

Story

Three weeks after Georgia's president Zviad Gamsakhurdia was driven out of Tbilisi by rebel national guards, people in the former Soviet republic are facing severe shortages of food and petrol.
Residents of the capital, Tbilisi, are buying basic foodstuffs and petrol on the black market at prices which are at least 20 per cent higher than those in shops. A telephone system which has broken down and frequent power cuts have added to their problems.
A group of Gamsakhurdia's supporters gathered in Tbilisi on Wednesday (January 22) to express their support for the deposed president.
